That new bow... - by Hewer

I wanted an upgrade, like a bow that doesn't increase visibility when drawn, like Con's sword was an upgrade to G's Keeper Novice blade. This new bow is made to collapse 'cause Garrett has no place to carry it like before. :p

The Bow Upgrade is all played out.
Its in T2X as an easter egg somewhere.
And its already in Thief DS.
so lets move on shall we?

The problem is that it's a (

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VdONYkKFmQ#t=58s) modern take down sport recurve bow (even with visor!) that was simply painted in gold. I wish they had chosen to take a design that would fit the historical and Steampunk aesthetics but wasn't a plain rip-off.
And no, that doesn't make me despair or lament, it's just one of those few nuisances in an otherwise promising preview. And as I said before, it looks like after Assassin's Creed they needed
something retractable.

What history?
Thief isn't set in this world.

Nah man, he just finally found the bow upgrade.
This made me laugh.
I think the bow looks rather modern and complicated for the City, but, given the number of buckles, laces & doohickeys on the new Garrett's clothing, they kind of go together. Not saying I like either one, but they have a similar look to me. I shouldn't have a problem with immersion because, if I can believe in rope, water and moss arrows, then I should be able to overlook the bow design. I believe it's called willing suspension of disbelief. I'm really good at it.

...as far as you know. O_o
SubJeff on 7/3/2013 at 23:39
Well it isn't because it's steam punk, which by definition is alternative history.

Steampunk's real, man. You know all those people who wear goggles and tophats all the time and go to all those conventions? Where do you think they come from?
I'll tell you: Mu.

Could the new bow be made from the materials available in the Thief world? It looks pretty delicate and while modern materials are easily up to the job, what's available in the Thief world that could do the same? It looks expensive so it would presumably have to be durable too, otherwise it would be a waste of money.
If the blacksmiths in the video only used old, basic materials then good for them, but there's still the question of durability.

Well in the Thief world they have elemental crystal so you know...
