That bloody inhospitable east coast ... - by Chade

Bloody hell, that was the most stupid thing I think I've done in computer gaming ... deciding to take my level 3 thief on a trip into the center of the island, starting from morag mar (is that the correct spelling).
Well, things were going fine, that's untill my only short sword ended up on condition, "5/600". So I switched to my bow. Soon enough, I was out of arrows. This forced me to switch to a silver longsword I had, well, my character has a skill of 5 in longswords.
So here I am, stuck in the half way into the middle of the fricken island, with no weapon but a silver longsword, which I have almost no skill in, and therefore a character fit only to fight rats, and the occasional crab. Even a cliff racer takes off about half my health normally, before I kill it. Right now, I should have turned back for Morag Mar. But no, instead I decide to head to the coast. I figure, the west coast seems well inhabited, I hsould find a few towns on the east coast as well.
Now the fun begins.
I have to sneak almost everywhere, which is slow. What's more my character can only sneak reliably during night time. So as well as moving slowly through the night, I have to spend the last bit of it trying to find a palce I can rest during the day. Not fun. To cut a long story short, eventually, I hit the coast. THERE'S NO ONE HERE!!! (I am slowly turning insane, by this point).
So, I start south, down the coast, hoping to find something, anything, that I can use to take myself out of this place. Don't get my wrong, I quite like exploring, but this character can't get into a fight without dying, and he can't move fast enough to run away effectively, so I'm forced to spend absolutely ages making sure I don't get seen.
Than, like a dream, I spot a boat!!! It turns out theres some sort of monastry stuck out here in the middle of nowhere. I run towards it, I don't care about stealth anymore, I end up with a cliff-racer, a bull like thing, and a skeleton on my trail. BUT I CAN GET AWAY! w000t!
So I run up to this guy with all these monsters on my trail. "I'm sorry, I can't talk to you as I must continue my provate devotions" I can see the travel option right there in the dialogue menu, but I can't use it, 'cause this idiot has to continue with his bloody devotions. WHY ARE YOU SITTING NEXT TO A BOAT THAN??? There's a monastery just up the road. But it doesn't work, and I now officially turn insane. I dive off into the sea to avoid the monsters, and end up getting eaten by a couple of fish.
Now I've learnt my lesson, there won't be any bloody help on the coastline, I turn my back on it and take the most direct route back to Morag Mar, avoiding the monsters on the way. This trip to the coastline, has ended up taking me four hours. Bloody hell.
Beat that for the msot stupid decision ever to make in morrowind.

Should have gone north on the coast, not south.

Really?? Well, now my shortswords back up to a good condition, maybe I will.
Actually, I remember going up north a bit, I hit a camp of Dunmer, I think they were. I thought they'd shelter me, but they killed me instead, so I gave up on it.

haha! well at least you got a very amusing story now =) Ive kept to the main roads mostly now so i dont know where jack is, the maps aren't detailed enough to give me confidence to explore more, really wish they were better because i like exploring, but am not too thrilled about getting horribly lost lol

Use the world map, it tells you the direction you have to go to get back to civilisation. The main trouble is when a mountain range blocks your road, and you have to find a pass.

Great story. Suspect I know the monk and he'll only talk to you once you've gotten to a certain place in the storyline.

My advice: Stick to where you are, hit lvl 6-9, and just walk in the same direction, for all long time. ignore signs, kill everything on your way, once your lvl 9, the monsters you find on the way shouldnt be to much trouble, until, of course, some of the monsters hurt like hell, found a deadra on the way once... not a clue where i was tho, it was just standing there, and then... i was dead. *shrugs* if anyone figues out where it was, let me know, lvl 38 now, i think id like to kill it... it personal now... :p And, ive seen on various posts about people talking about how easy the game is now... I dont feel like chnaging posts, so im gonna bitch on here:p USE THE EDITOR! im lvl 38, and added a new island, and threw the hardests monsters in the game, along w/ various guards, and attack them... great for something to do, but, have to swim, how in the hell do you set up a teleporter? i shoudve figured it out by know, but i didnt..:erg:

And this, my friend, is exactly why it is an excellent idea to carry around a few intervention scrolls.
Damodred on 21/5/2002 at 18:03
Ditto. You GOTTA carry an Intervention scroll, if you carry nothing else :)
That's a great story though. Especially about the fish. I hates the fish.
I also ran across some unhelpful 'travel' people. Standing in front of a boat, and going "huh, travel, why would I know anything about that". Ummm...duh? :)
