flying skulls (is it possible to destroy them?)Yes, it's possible
with fire arrowsMy questions:
1) Does anybody have a list of
those "precariously placed gold goblets"? I found a few, but obviously not enough of them.
2) In the old gardener's attic
how to make his tree grow golden apples? Simply using
water arrows does not work...

There was something readable in a courtyard, most likely between the Bank and Fitzgerald's place. Something about very good water from deep down pouring out of the fountains. Furthermore, the bank is supposed to be built on top of an old pagan temple, which would also fit in with the idea of having "special water" from deep down in the courtyard nearby. But I did not find out anything that seemed unusual about that water. Neither did I find anything with which to carry some of that water, such as an empty bottle or a similar vessel.
There also was a note about the old gardener. A nobleman and a noblewoman were making fun of the gardener's fruitless efforts of making golden apples.
But so far, all this only seems to be a myth, red herring, or other non-important thing.
Anyway, this was a good mission that provided several hours of good old thievery, roaming around in nobles' houses, whacking guards' heads in a bank, and even stealing from some other thieves, noble and not-so-noble ones.:thumb:

golden apple horticulture!
How did you do that?

I got a Bonus objective for finding
Five precariously placed gold goblets.
Do you happen to remember
the locations of those trinkets? I must have missed at least one...

NE from Branson, just West of bakers shop, wooden beam above window2)
SE corner of central garden at Mossgate Bank3)
Near gargoyle outside Wilson's mansion4)
At Nichols mansion opposite gargoyle on Mossgate Bank5)
At Randolph's mansion above his window at ground level with lockable shutters

Simple water arrows do not work...Yeah, I've been scratching my head over that too, any hints would be appreciated,
I've been looking for buckets or watering cans with little success

bucket in the secret keeper chamber.

... And Get F*cking Rich With Them!:cheeky:
All right, with the hints present here on the forums and a little help of DromEd (call me a cheetah for that if you wish;)), I was able to grow two golden apples, and also catch a goldfish in the process.
To pull off this thing, you first need the bucket zappenduster mentioned. The entry to the Keeper hideout is not too well hidden; you can find a standard Keeper glyph on the southern part of the foundations of the bank, on one of the statues.
However, you need something to get in. Of course, it is a Keeper key, which you find to the south or southwest of the bank. But I think that you have to be an explorer to find it, since the entry to the room with it is a window high up on the western facade of the house west of the stairs leading up to the bank. I don't know whether that can be seen from below; I only found this place when searching for the Keeper key with DromEd.
To get to that entrance, you should start with the house marked as "Randolph" on the map. On the building's western side, there is a window that either is open or can be opened by Garrett. Once inside, work your way up and explore the roof outside the windows to the south.
From up there, you can make a daring jump to the building marked as "Wilson" on the map, south of the roof you are standing on. Save your game before trying, for it is not easy to get across even at the right spot, and a fall from this height surely hurts a lot. And don't forget to catch hold of the ledge by pressing the jump/mantle key!
On the other side, go to the eastern end of the roof and look at the northern facade of the adjacent building. You should notice some gargoyles there. Time to make more dangerous jumps. When you arrive at the eastern edge of the facade, you should be able to walk from the gargoyle pointing north onto its neighbour right around the corner. Do so.
You're now just one jump apart from a ledge below some windows, so make that last jump. Look for a window nearby that you can open. Get inside first, and the key second.
Now you have the strangely shaped key you need to enter the Keeper hideout. Go back to the statues on the southern foundation of the bank and look for the one with the Keeper glyph. Use the key on it, and the statue moves backwards, revealing the entrance. Move in.
Somewhere in there, you find an empty bucket. This is the one zappenduster mentioned. Take it. Do whatever else you want to do here, then move out again.
Now you need to fill your empty vessel with some water. Of course, neither ordinary sewer water nor a standard water arrow will do it. Holy water is out of the question, too. And don't even think of peeing into the bucket!:eww: But maybe you came across a water source that was described as being of higher quality as the standard ones? I'm talking of the fountains in the inner courtyard of the bank, south of Fitzgerald's place. Engraved in one of the stones on the ground, you should see the hint I mentioned. If you go to the western spring, you might also catch a real goldfish in there - it goes into your inventory as loot. When I accidentally discovered that before even having found the empty vessel, I was certain that this was the right spot to fetch water.
I used the western fountain to get the water, but the other one most likely works as well. Drop your vessel into the water, wait for about five seconds, and get the vessel out again. It should have a new description since it's full now.
The rest is not too difficult to guess: You have to take the water to the greenhouse high up in the house to the northwest of Bronson's.
If you have been in the greenhouse with the two trees and the gardener's book before, and then went down the stairs beyond that room, you can now go into Fitzgerald's first, then climb out of a window to the west and onto Bronson's balcony, travel through Bronson's house to the northern wall of it, and get out through an open window to the north. Make your way across the stone bridge there. Climb into the window on the other side, ascend the stairs in the adjacent room and climb onto the elevated central part of the room containing one large and one small tree.
If you have not been in the greenhouse before, you need to take another route - see below ("P.S.").
Position yourself between these trees, then face the larger tree. Empty the vessel onto the tree; I think it's either done by dropping the vessel or using it (right mouse button with standard key bindings). The vessel is empty again, but if you carefully examine the large tree, you should be able to discover two golden apples that just appeared. Get them, sell them on the black market, and get f*ckin' rich with them, as I promised!
Unfortunately (at least for the greedy among us), you cannot pull this off more than once. Two apples should be enough for everyone, I guess.:cheeky:
Be sure to watch our next episode, where we'll be making silver carrotts in a magical swamp bathed in moonlight!:joke:
P.S.: scottyd pointed out that these directions only work if the player has already been in the greenhouse and went down the stairs afterwards. There is a switch near the bottom of the stairs which opens a secret door into a room which has a window to the south. A stone bridge on the outside leads to Bronson's place.
If you have not opened that secret door yet, you cannot do it from the other side. There's no point in going through the homes of Fitzgerald and Bronson, then. Instead, you have to go into the street which leads to the starting point of the mission. High up on the southern facades, there should be a small part of wood next to a stone bridge. Place a rope arrow in there and climb up. Retrieve your arrow, then cross the stone bridge. Shoot the rope arrow into the wooden windowsill just below the window at the north end of the stone bridge. Climb up, open the shutters, and climb inside. Make your way through the rooms there, and you should reach the spot where there are two small trees in a room.
This is the gardener's greenhouse, and now you can continue like I said above: Water the tree and get your price.
