OMG what a great mission! After 10 minutes of playing I get so dizzy from the heights I need to take a break. I can't believe this is a TG mission.
Thank you for making it!

I could have added an objective, but I dislike restricting players' choices with them. I like to ghost, but I will never add a forced ghosting objective because I know some players like to bonk everyone on the head, so they're free to kill or kabong the Keepers' heads if they want. :p
You are so right sir! Emphasis on the 'kabong'!
Great mission.

I had some good fun with this one. :) Great rooftops. The ways of getting up and down could have been more varied, though; as it was it, was mostly by rope arrow, but there could have been one or two elevators, more ladders, more mantling, jumping etc...
I loved your inclusion of the Keeper compound, but I was expecting more Keeper-like traps getting the necklace; it was a bit too easy getting it and the Keepers themselves could have been more alert (they are Keepers after all) and harder to sneak by or blackjack.
I was a bit disappointed that I never got to really humiliate Beric myself ;) since he was already gone when I got there (maybe allowing me to help his poor wife run away, steal all his possessions, making him look like an idiot in public, making his business associates turn their backs on him etc...). I was also expecting more about why Keeper Ingvar killed Beric (Beric being an awful man didn't seem enough for a Keeper to break the most fundamental rule of being a Keeper).
I liked the small sidestory with the love letter and previous attempts. More sidestories would have been fun and maybe even one or more optional/hidden sidequests (unless I missed something).
With that said, I enjoyed this mission a lot; great architecture and rooftops, good climbing, great interiors and exteriors. Great, classic Thief 1/G feeling and atmosphere with a good number of shadows to hide in.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I agree with the various ways, but I really wanted to release this as I was getting a bit sick working on it. My next FM will feature a more parkour-like style of climbing, though, and will be significantly harder than my previous missions. :p
I made the Keepers quite alert at first but I didn't really enjoy the result, and I wanted the difficulty to be the same pretty much everywhere in the level. I wanted them to become almost invisible when alerted though, but I never managed to do that.
Ingvar is a callous Keeper and couldn't resist grabbing the artifact for himself and for his thirst for power, which eventually led to his downfall. What we don't know is how Beric came to die by his hand, though, and I don't think I'll ever explain this clearly. Some things need to stay in the shadows. There was a fight in his study, so Ingvar perhaps got impatient, etc. As for the side stories, I admit this one felt a bit light in that department, and my Garrett isn't the type of guy who's going to save the poor damsel in distress; all he wants is his money, he doesn't care about the rest. I will try to include more things in my next mission.
By the way, the first draft of this mission had Garrett being commissioned by an undisclosed third party to steal a valuable treasure map drawn by a cartographer and replace it with a fake, since the true map was going to be sold at an auction. After I found out the plot was silly garbage, I decided to return to my love for Assassins and the criminal underworld of Thief and write something in that vein, and decided to include the Keepers in this mission because of my selfish love for Keeper FMs. My next FM will also greatly feature that criminal underworld. :D

I know that feeling all too well.

Hey guys I really wanna play this mission but it keeps on crashing when I try to enter the game (not the menu but the FM itself). I do use Thief Gold (steam version, if that matters) and I did apply TFix. Is steam really punishing me for buying stuff from it, again?
skacky on 8/12/2012 at 22:14
Nope, Steam shouldn't have anything to do with it. That's really weird, because the bug you have happens when you launch the FM without New Dark, but since you have TFix that shouldn't happen. Did you make sure TFix installed New Dark correctly? :erg:

Yeah I even just retried it, installing the TFix in the right steam directory again. I'll try applying the 1.19 patch seperately..

I had the same crash to desktop, but it has nothing to do with the mission itself. Looks like you have a problem with your install.
I uninstalled thief gold, reinstalled it, and applied the latest Tfix patch. Make sure your Tfix version is 1.12, because it includes the 1.19 patch.
Then I copied the files I had in my \crf folder into the \res folder. And then, the game runs fine.
Regarding the mission, all I had to do is fix the type=2 bug in the darkloader .ini file.
well, I have the trilogy from Mastertronic. The thief gold ver. is 1.37 (???). The fm crashes in Garrettloader. In Darkloader 4.3 with the Tfix1.12 goes up to ''continue'' and then crashes also. And I still have the affinity problem -have to find again how to fix it for good to use only the 00 core - but, this is my least concern for now. I am on Windows 7 home premium. For the time being, all other older T1 fm's I tried work allright with Tfix but not this one. I did the "type=1 " thing, should I also do as you say about coping the crf to res ? I do something wrong... any hints please? Thank you!!!
