I have Thief 1 patched for Thief Gold.
I have Thief New Dark installed.
I followed the instructions about darkloader.ini.
With the T1 disk in the drive, I can select a difficulty level, but when I select Continue at the objectives screen, T1 crashes to desktop.

This is very strange, none of my beta-testers ever reported any crashes. Can you launch the FM from the built-in FMSel and see if that makes a difference?

I went to your (
http://www.skacky.net) website and am quite impressed with your range of mission-building using several different editors (Half-Life, Team Fortress, etc.) I don't know how you can keep track.
I'm just curious as to why you don't author T2 maps. :erg: Unless you're going for the gritty feel of TG.
Thanks! I'm aiming for the gritty TG feel and I don't have a lot of interest in T2 level design overall, but I may make a T2 FM in the future.

My mind has been blank lately, i´m playing on normal mode for two hours and i can´t seem to complete the first goal, where is this precious item that i must aquire?
By the way the mission is beautiful, this is my favourite style of missions ;-)
The item is in
Beric's manor that's west of Upper Newmarket, near the Market Place. Finding it involves a little search.Dainem: You can't break into the priory proper,
though you can break into both the priory cellar and the priest's quarters. ;)

You suggest using "the built-in FMSel". Where exactly is this file located after Darkloader has done its work?

It's a FM loader that's built in your Thief executable file with New Dark. It is an alternative to Darkloader, and it's easy to use even if it's pretty spartan and rough at the moment. Contrary to Darkloader, it 'extracts' the FM forever, so there is no loading time when switching FMs. Follow these steps:
Quote:
1) In your Thief/Thief Gold directory, create two folders. Name the first '
Archive', and the second '
FMs'.
2) Put darkwalls.zip in the '
Archive' folder.
3) Open the file
cam_mode.ini found in your Thief/Thief Gold directory and delete the semicolon (
;) at the line
;fm (this should be near the beginning of the file).
4) Save and close the file.
5) Launch Thief via its executable file in the folder, FMSel will launch.
6) Click the Gear icon on the bottom, and click
FM Archive Path. Then, select the
Archive folder you just created.
7) Close FMSel and launch it again, and now you should see the FM in the list.

I haven't tried that yet.
In the meantime, I saw in the FM readme that I should run Tfix. I did that, now the game crashes to desktop with the message that T2 has a problem (even though I have the T1 disk in the drive).

Just for info, I followed the steps for DarkLoader but it crashed at 'Continue' for me too. It works fine in FMSel though. Wish I had time to play it now!

I had no problem at all with darkloader 4.3.
Marbrien on 17/11/2012 at 14:05
I also have Darkloader 4.3.
I just followed the FM Sel instructions, but I still get a crash to desktop saying T2 has a problem.

I had the same crash to desktop, but it has nothing to do with the mission itself. Looks like you have a problem with your install.
I uninstalled thief gold, reinstalled it, and applied the latest Tfix patch. Make sure your Tfix version is 1.12, because it includes the 1.19 patch.
Then I copied the files I had in my \crf folder into the \res folder. And then, the game runs fine.
Regarding the mission, all I had to do is fix the type=2 bug in the darkloader .ini file.

skacky: This is a MASTERPIECE I love any mission that envolves the thieves highway!!!:cheeky::eek:
The ONLY problem I had with it is that it had to end!!;):p
I would like to see this continued into a series (hopeful wishing)
Thank you for a GREAT mission!!
