On the other hand, given how ugly it looked in pure VGA, the Thief Gold player surely needed a 3D accelerator.:ebil:

One of the few missions I give 11/10. Thanks, DirkBogan.
Some questions regarding the story and the setting if you can answer:
- Where is Craggenmense exactly, in relation to The City? Possibly the mountains where Cragscleft is?
- What's up with the collapsed bridge? What did it connect?
- Who is the lady pictured in the painting behind the Iron Facade?
- Who or what is Her Devine Eye? A camera behind the painting or the painting itself ("records" through magic)?
- Is this before the events of TDP? I think I read something about the Vizier being hyped up about HIS return.

What a unique idea this valley of yours!! I had such a great time playing it!
5+ hours on expert and still missing some 800+ loot but I will dive back again as I read about a keepers medalion that I haven't found yet. I wonder whether it will do something to the only door at the keepers area that is an object? Anyway, I am impressed by the imagination and the hard work behind this mission and I love how this old engine inspires so many brave storytellers for so many years. Thank you so much for this gift DirkBogan!!
Edit.. I found the medallion, thanks to the loot list, and now that I read the walkthrough I have to say that all through the play time I was trying to find how to take the items without endangering the children, but they were not optional objectives, so I took them, antisipating some new objective to come along saying put them back for the children's shake. When I read the scroll for the truce I already had the skull. It would be nice if we were able to put them back if we so wished.

Just wanted to chime in and say this is one of my favorite FMs ever. More than any I've played so far (and I've spent almost 300 hours on FMs during the pandemic), this one this captured the uncanny magic of the original game for me: multiple heists in creative mansions, otherworldly sound design, a smart mix of dread and discovery, with great unobtrusive writing throughout.
At first I wasn’t sure I liked the derezzed textures, but I came to love them, partly because they helped make the familiar new again, adding to the sense of exploration. The level design is spectacular overall, both epic in scope and fastidious in detail – every room seems to have a story. (I particularly loved the secret attic in the Vizier's mansion, with the creepy Pagan-esque throne and crown.) Got a distinct Soulsborne vibe, too, with shortcuts that only open from one side, connecting bigger and bigger spaces the further you progress, all anchored by vistas of the central chasm. And I LOVE that there's a secret/alternate ending, with a real moral choice involved!
Absolute knockout, DirkBogan. Kudos!
One lingering question, if anyone knows: What's with that spooky red glowing window between the two mansion? With what sounds like a distorted Karras sermon coming from the other side? Is that just a spooky bit of atmosphere?

Dirk, what is with you and putting mines in gardens? Really? I know you're Australian, but lmao that's shitposting.

Apparently you don't understand how much damage bug beasts can do when they get into your garden ;)

They're probably for cane toads.

I'm a little late on this, that's a reoccurring theme for me lately, after taking some time off. This was a good fun, neck breaking, enjoyable mission. Straight forward, that was a nice break from all the key hunts, tiny ass switches. Mix it up a little. I got the sense of the original while still feeling like it was brand new. I didn't have to look at the forum once for a clue, I just kept going and exploring. The only thing I had a hard time with, was the textures. I did change the texture filtering. Originally I found it harder to look at things, and focus, odd I know.

About halfway through this one, and wow! I thought Compulsory Egress was great, but this is something else, Dirk. The design is so simple, yet clever. Not sure I'm following the story from the readables so far, but hopefully I'll catch on. Super immersive and addicting. Top notch!

Finished with 5760/5800 loot. Once I looped all the way around and reached the Vizier's top level, the mission went from excellent to among my all-time favorites. Truly a masterpiece, DirkBogan. What really surprises me is how vertical it is, yet how little you end up using rope arrows. I loved little details like the guards on the Vizier's top floor having deeper, "darker" voices. Almost like they are being transformed by trickster's power. Another favorite was in Ehlena's prison, she is in front of what looks like a mirror, though I think it's just a picture. It's so far away you cannot really tell, which makes it so much more ominous. Those details go such a long way. There are many more of those I can't remember. Cannot wait to replay and try to Supreme this one. Thanks for giving us this gem!
