Finished the game in 3 hours..phew! I spent at least 30 minutes trying to figure out how to rescue what sounded like a guy behind that double barred window that looked like a cross I think and that girl behind the other barred window. No luck. The map was not very helpful and the layout of the two separate castles seem confusing. I could have sworn that going to the top of the Supraward's castle had the off limits area for the Vizier since going all the way down from there would lead to the Vizier's castle interior. But how?

Had a blast playing this mission for about 3 hours. Great fun and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure! Thanks! :cheeky:

This is truly amazing FM! I finished it last night and I've gotta say that I'm not sure if I've played a mission before that captures the feeling of Thief Gold so well! I think pixelated textures and the proper darkness made this such a unique experience. Also, ambient sounds were used masterfully!
Compulsory Egress was very good but this is even better! This one goes to the very top among the TG FMs I've played!

Ascend The Dim Valley is awe-inspiring. From the moment when I exited the well and looked up, I knew this was going to be good. Just stellar environment design. Not a single room felt like it had not received an extra amount of care. The setting was very interesting and the journals did a marvellous job of explaining the conflict between the Vizier and the Supraward. My favorite part was the creepy Pagan area. I love the portrayal of the Pagans as this cult beyond the understanding of mere mortals that turns good men into beasts. I also found the hidden Keeper area and got quite the jolt when I thought I was slipping towards a bottomless pit.
I thoroughly enjoyed my first playthrough of Ascend The Dim Valley on Normal in 2 hours and 11 minutes. Got only 3993 of 5800 total loot, so there must be some areas that I missed and could discover on my next playthrough.

This is the first FM of thief gold I have played and I liked it quite a bit! :) Though I have to say that I found it a bit boring. Like, I know there was a story behind it, but I just quite couldn´t get into it. I usually read all the readables but here I was just skimming them and felt pretty bored about it. But I really liked the gameplay and atmosphere! :)

Dirk, this is a masterpiece. Thank you for putting this out there.
It reminds me of an M.C. Escher drawing in a way. Interconnected cozy goodness.
Please keep making fms.

Since texture filtering was introduced in NewDark, I'm sure LGS never intended for their low-res stock textures to be blurry.
thats incorrect. texture filtering was present from day 1 of the dark project's release, if you had a 3d accelerator card and could use the hardware renderer. LGS quite definitely designed for that—even the screenshots on the back of the box are with texture filtering enabled! it was the software renderer in the dark project/gold (not thief 2; it required hardware acceleration) that did not support texture filtering. it was actually NewDark that added the ability to turn texture filtering
off again!
edit: correction, thief gold did not require a 3d accelerator

At least my german version of Thief Gold did not require hardware acceleration to play. I once had only an old VGA-only card for playing, and yet I could play a FM. Thief 2, on the other hand, can sometimes glitch into some kind of whacky software-only graphics mode, but it is obviously not intended: The colors are all wrong then.

baeuchlein, you are quite correct, thief gold also did not require a 3d accelerator. i had my wires crossed.
