Ok, I've got my stronghold, and I'm trying to edit the NPCs that like to hang around. I've managed to edit everything except for their clothing. No matter what I give them, they wear the default garb. What's up with that?
-edit- Actually, any tips on editing NPCs would be greatly appreciated, some things don't work like I think they should... even a link to a proper turtorial would be nice (not a creation tutorial, I found a few of those, and they don't help). In any case, I want to give them new clothes and it doesn't work. :(
-edit2- Yes, I have deleted the old clothing, and added the new to the 'items' tab in the 'NPC' screen. No go.

I never did that, but perhaps its the same as with many other "bugs" about the editor:
When you have visited a place/person, this information is stored in the savegame. And the files load in the following order:
MainFile - PlugIns - Savegame
So if that information is still in the savegame, it is overwriting the plugin. (Happend often enough to me :( )
Only solution so far: Go as far away as possible. Save there. Quit. Unplug the mods. Load Savegame. Save. Quit. Plug mods in. Load savegame. Voila. (If you had luck!!)
Oh, and use everytime a NEW savegame.
If its not that kind of bug - sorry !

Hmmmm. I'll try that. But the thing is, everything else I change does work, extra inventory, spells, gold, etc. just not the clothing. I'll post back after I try that and update.
-edit- Well, it didn't work. Same old common clothes. Nice damn inventory though..:( :) :( :) (I'm ambivalent... :p)
-edit2- Well, I changed my Telvanni stronghold NPCs to make them more useful. The enchanter got 12000 gold, the healer got turned into an outfitter with 8000 gold, and all 4 of them got a level up.
I would still love to hear how to change their clothing tho... I don't want my lackeys wearing common clothes!
Bah. If no-one can help here, I'll just make them all so they buy clothing for a bit, and sell them what I want them to wear. Then I'll put them back to 'normal'. But I still want to know why the editor isn't able to change this little thing. It's bugging me!

Dressing npc's depends on a couple things...
First: If they have some armor and clothing, they will wear whatever combination gives them the best AR. You can give them glass armor and steel, and if they have a much higher heavy armor skill, they will wear the steel armor. As for clothing, they will wear whichever has the highest value.
Second: Did you try removing the extra clothes from their inventory... they cant wear what they dont have.
If you want them to sell clothing, but you don't want to wear the clothing you give them(in the editor), make a container and put the stuff you want the npc to sell in there, then tag the container as owned by that npc. They will still wear better clothing/armor that you sell to them in game, but they wont be wearing any extra clothes.

Well, after a few web searches, I found a really nice .pdf file, along with some other stuff. It turns out the NPC inventory data is indeed stored in the save file after first contact, and can no longer be edited. So I made 4 'new' NPCs (I added a '2' after the ID), and gave them the stats I wanted, and popped them into the cells after deleting the old ones. Now I just gotta add ownership to every blasted item in each cell.. meh. In any case, problem solved. :)
