Saw this in
The Guardian this morning, apparently he posted a lot in alt.games.thief-dark-project back in the day, doesn't mention TTLG that I noticed:
(
https://www.theguardian.com/games/2021/dec/09/terry-pratchett-thief-video-game-forum) ‘Help! I’ve been spotted!’ Terry Pratchett on Thief, his favourite video game
"In the early 2000s, the Discworld author frequented a forum dedicated to the Thief series of stealth games. His posts provide a fascinating insight into his fondness for gaming"

Yeah, I used to frequent alt.fan.pratchett back in the day and he would regularly show up on Usenet and post in various groups. And yes, he was a gamer and a big fan of the Thief games.

That's a great article! I used to help him on the newsgroup and by email fairly often. It was all strictly about Thief and any mention of his books was ignored so that was done only once. He just wanted to enjoy the same game the rest of us had so much fun with. He once said he wanted to work on a frobbable book for his bookcase and that if he got it to work, he'd send me one but it never happened. Too bad because that would have been quite a souvenir.

I don't understand, he was making a FM?

I think this means he wanted a secret book shelf in real life home, which would be activated by a book. I've seen houses like this--pretty cool, tbh!

He meant a real book that you could put on a shelf, as trefoilknot said.

Oh, sooo cool. Sir Terry is one of my favorite authors, and I still read his books today. So sad when he passed.
That would have been quite the souvenir, Nightwalker! I'll have to settle for the random mention he made about the sprinkler effect I constructed for someone's FM a looong time ago, and he said it was a neat effect he didn't remember seeing in a FM before. I'll take what I can get, and it's a fond memory of mine.
