Taking <a href="http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000176.html">aardvark's cue</a>, I decided to put together a few <a href="http://shadowcat.freehosting.net/tnova.html">screenshots of our favourite squad in action</a>.
(With the TTLG FTP servers down while the bandwidth issues are resolved, I had to put them on a remote site.)
The pictures are all 320x400 screenshots stretched to 640x400 gifs. Damn, but this game looks good for its age.
I hope you like 'em :)
<strong>NEW</strong>
<a href="http://shadowcat.freehosting.net/tnova2.html">Second page of screenshots</a>!
(This time I made them .pngs and kept them at 320x400 to reduce the file size, and told the web browser to stretch them to 640x400. Should look just as good, but load faster than the last lot.)

You got those shots from the Random Mission Builder, right? I don't recall them.
It's way cool how this game has reflective water and scrolling skies.
That laser shot looks like it's from a comic book.

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif I'm not used to seeing stills of the game. It definitely looks better while playing.

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gifMy favorite RMB scenario was Death Valley (the 'ominous' screenshot) with full cheats and blasting away at the ground with an accelerator gun launching into the atmosphere. Well, nearly that high.

Yes indeed. Hence also the relative lack of variety in the landscapes; it's a shame you don't have access to all the Centauri planets and moons from the random generator.
I've taken a few from the saved games I have, so I might put up a second page later.
> It's way cool how this game has reflective water and scrolling skies.
Those two features blew me away when I first saw them. I quite like the shot I have of one of the squad member jetting above the water while being reflected in it.

Yeah, that applies to most things. You don't notice the laser so much because you're concentrating on what you're shooting at, I think :) OTOH, having looked at a bunch stills now, I actually quite like the look.

heh :)
Death Valley is my fave as well, but usually because it really can be deadly in that ravine, so it makes for a good fight.
The cheats are definitely goof fun though!
[ha; a typo, yet rather appropriate. let's keep it.]

btw, folks, drop me a line (or write a reply) if you liked the screens, or they encouraged you to have a game (or even install and have a game :), or just plain reminisce about playing.
I still tend to jump into a handful of random missions each week at least... it's one of my favourite 'quick fix' games, and I enjoy knowing that other people are still playing it as well!

You need to be psychic to beat it. Which you essentially get to be with repeated failures, but I'm not convinced that's a good thing!
First time I played it... (Well, I forget the details of how it plays out, but) Okay let's take a look at the map... right, the convoy's coming from that direction; come on team... hey, it's under attack, get 'em!! [much carnage ensues] Yay, okay, back to- MISSION FAILED - hey what th..?
Next time. Right, you two go that way, we'll go this way. Haha, let's get them! [much carnage ensues] Yay, okay, back to- MISSION FAILED - Argh!!
Right. Here we are again... you three go there, I'm off to get the convoy... Here we go.. [carnage carnage], phew. Okay, now how are you three... - MISSION FAILED - Oh for the love of...
MISSION FAILED
MISSION FAILED
MISSION FAILED
[Leaps out of dropship and starts madly issuing orders in freefall] "You three. There! Now! Kill them all! Go go go go go!" [turns and sprints madly to where the convoy will appear, runs right past it until the approaching enemy are in range, and rains pre-emptive firey raging death upon them.] "Ha! Take that!" [Spins about and high-tails it for the base...] "Come on guys... hold them off just a little longer... there's three of you, you can do it..." [reaches the base and annihilates the remaining pirates in a frenzied panic-induced bloodlust]
OBJECTIVES COMPLETED
Oh thank god for that...
Well; that's how I remember it, anyway :)
(of course, that was nothing compared to a couple of I-War missions. Another game I love, but sometimes it was just plain *cruel*...)

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gifYou must be psychic! That's how it was for me, too. I always have to command the troops while in freefall. The hard part is the vulnerability of the launch base. One hit from the mechs and it's over.

And here is me, playing Terra Nova for the 2nd time... and the first time I never got past the "destroy the tankers" mission, so basically, I'm completing the game for the first time.
Envy me, for I am enjoying it immensely, mwaha.

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/wink.gifEh. I'd give anything to relive the first time I played SS1 though. Sigh.

Mein Senf dazu:
The screenshots look good. I'll try to lure a few known action addictees towards them, let's see whether I can convince them to have a try at TN.
Oh how I hated that convoi mission. After the 3rd failure I switched the difficulty to very easy (neighbourhood patrol?), so that I wouldn't bite my keyboard from frustration. This mission went really out of the flow of game.
Brad Schoonmaker on 10/3/2001 at 04:05
I had to play that mission at the easy difficulty, too. After a couple times, it gets easier to play, though. There are other missions that stay hard. The mission to destroy the clone tanks on Sera was a tough one, too. Also, the moon assault was hard because of those damned accurate mortars.
