It occurred to me the other day that the TN demo was supposed to involve a mission not from the full version, and I'd never tried it out (I think the 8MB download seemed much MUCH bigger back then... :)
So I grabbed it and played it last night, and thoroughly recommend that anyone else who hasn't already done so does the same. The mission involves a few scraps -- nothing you haven't seen before -- but takes place amongst some gorgeous rolling hills that it's a joy to jet around in. (Gravity seemed unexpectedly low as well, but perhaps I've only been playing in regular gravity missions of late.)

I have an 8 meg (same?) demo and a 29 meg demo. They are different from the full version. Fun, too.

Cool beans. Anything exciting in the 29MB demo? (is it just one mission???, or does it include some of the CGI, or something?)

Here's the text from the Readme file in the demo:

Welcome to the Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri Demo
***********************************************************
This demo contains three heart-pounding missions that
are not in the shipping game. These are missions designed
specifically for this demo!
Terra Nova has some known problems running under
Win95. If you experience any, please boot under DOS and
try again.

USEFUL TIPS
- Right clicking on an object will acquire a target lock on
it.
- Pressing 'H' will bring up the help screen.
- Pressing 'O' will bring up the options panel. You can
change the resolution to 320x400 or change detail
settings.
- Pressing 'G' or clicking in the upper left red box will
toggle between full-screen and half-screen modes.
- Pressing the Space Bar will activate your jump-jets.
Watch your jump-jet fuel level in the upper right.
- The Multipulsar has the longest weapon range.
- The Grenade launcher does plenty of damage, but watch
the ammo count.
- The Laser is a continuous-fire weapon, and has the
lowest travel time to your target.
- Smoke grenades provides cover. Beam weapons do not
pass through smoke.
- After your mission objectives are achieved, the
dropship will come to the pickup point.
- After the dropship has landed at the pickup point, press
return when you want to have the dropship pick you up.
- If you need to abort the mission, press CTRL-ESC.
- Friendly tip: Don't shoot the dropship; it won't be happy
with you.
- If you take enough damage, your video system will glitch
(screen flicker/static/pop).
- If you get too close to the edge of the map, your mission
will end. Your dropship pilot will warn you if you're
getting too far off of the mission area.

Thanks Brad! I was assuming the TTLG copies would have been on the FTP server, so I hadn't even checked.
Well, I hope the bandwidth used won't be too big a problem, 'cause I definitely need this demo :)

As enthused as you and I are about TN, lets pray and whatever else it takes to get multi working so we can try it as teammates! :D

I think that would involve a Tardis and a gret deal of cash. (Although maybe just the Tardis; the cash bit would be easier then :)
Brad Schoonmaker on 9/5/2001 at 02:17
That's TARDIS.
'Time And Relative Dimension In Space' is what it stand for if someone doesn't know. :)
Dr. Who rules!
If you think it's so easy to get the cash, then you take that job and I'll get a TARDIS. :D

Well I need the Tar^H^H^H TARDIS first, or getting the cash becomes much more difficult :)
So, just give me a buzz when you have it; then all we need to do is archive TTLG and all of LG's games since TN, pop them onto CD, take them with us and buy that multiplayer add-on!
hmm... in fact a much better plan would be to only go back a year, give them all the money to get them in the black and self-publishing again, buy them the biggest "sit up and take notice" marketing campaign ever, and then convince them to make Terra Nova 2 once they've finished Thief 3.
Then we just skip ahead and play both games :) :)
Brad Schoonmaker on 10/5/2001 at 00:43
Oh! Well, I was kinda sorta countin' on the cash up front and all. :p
