Connery's
interpretation of Bond as an actor was certainly popular with the audiences and part of that is the cocksure swagger and the knowing glint in his eye, but those are only edifices of a wider character that was never really revealed to the audience.
From there it truly descended into parody, with all the Moore Bonds and the latter Brosnan Bonds, where they were essentially pure vehicles for action setpieces and ludicrous villainy.
Casino Royale grounded everything, made the drama smaller and as a result grew the Bond character immeasurably over previous incarnations.
Anyway, enough Bond talk. Keep that for the Quantum of Solace thread in November!

Isn't that a given though? I mean, it
is inevitable, the robots came back in time, hence skynet nuked the earth, hence Judgement Day
happens.

Ja, but they forgot to explain how the machines were developed, if they destroyed the CPU and the hand at the end of T2.
OR they didn't forget - they simply wanted to avoid meditation about time paradoxes...

Oh! Right.
Erm. There was... like, a backup. Or something. ¬¬

Unless the whole Terminaverse is caught in a kind of permanent Star Trek causal loop, the arm and CP just acted as catalyzers for the military R&D (as well as convenient plot-device for T2). After all, the first Terminator movie had Judgment Day happening with no outside interference. With that in mind, T2 only reset the previous pre-T1 conditions, and merely delayed JD, as depicted in T3.

Yes and no. You could say that the second movie (which I always found a bit overrated - it's a rousing action movie but the first film always resonated more with me, just like
Alien/
Aliens) simply filled in blanks left by the first film. We don't know how exactly Judgement Day comes about, we don't know how Skynet comes into existence.
But you're right: if you focus too much on the effect the Terminator arm and CP have on the timeline, you quickly get stuck with a causal loop, and they're somewhat hackneyed.

Now hands up who saw the T2 Extended Special Edition showing (among other pearls) old Sarah Connor sitting in park in peaceful 2029? :cheeky:

I tell ya, all the griping from geeks about Lucas messing with his movies, someone really needed to keep Cameron the fuck away from his films

*bing* Have ya seen (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390384/) Primer lately? Not much of an action film.

Some of the
Aliens Directors Cut is good and helps the film. I could very much do without the bit early on introducing Newt and her parents. A) It's so much more effective to introduce her later, as in the original version, and B) the special effects of the planet surface weren't even good when
Aliens came out.

That's different. Lucas adds new stuff to his films after years. T2SE contains just original deleted scenes. Besides that, Extended Special Edition is an 'easter egg' on the Special Edition DVD, so they don't really brag with that alternate ending. Still, it's a waste of decent makeup work.
Primer... looks like a good tip. :thumb:
