But in the original timeline Skynet has lost, decides to send a Terminator and then the resistance take control of the time machine. No more Terminators.
So did they just ignore that for T2? T3's not really worth mentioning.

No, I forgot. In T2 it turns out they realised that 2nd Terminator was sent back (the T1000) so they send the reprogrammed T800 back. I can't remember T3, thankfully.

Right, no full frontal nudity of Kristanna. Bigots. :erg:

I like to think of John Connor phasing in and out of existence while his mates are all 'Shit, there he goes again! Throw another reprogrammed terminator in!'

I think James Cameron actually had to break his own rules for the sequel, but he actualy managed to do it well.
Imo, the terminator series had always been about the war actually being won through guerilla tactics, since skynet was basicly defeated once the defencegrid was down, and with the terminator being sent back, the war was being fought tonight, at this very day!
second movie was even more about the whole changing fate of things, and the sentient machinery in the removed chip-scene in terminator 2.
infiltrators can learn on their own when they're sent out, but its limited, since skynet wouldn't want to have them get their own ideas.
