Jack Ryan had trouble finding the Dallas and almost drowned when he got on it, and that was with the sub on the surface and relatively calm seas with good visibility. They may handwave all they want with "tracking systems", Connor's stunt was just plain stupid and completely ridiculous.

I don't know why I don't have a bigger problem with this movie because ostensibly it did a number of huge things wrong
Yeah I keep getting this nagging feeling i should hate the movie more than I do.
Perhaps my brain has turned to mush and I'm just easily pleased by robots going CLANK STOMP KILL. Oh well here comes Transformers 2...

Killing Connor in the here and now doesn't have much of a point either, since the rest of humanity is already fighting back. They should have just cut out that whole assassination attempt. Or left it out, I guess, since that's one of the things that were grafted on because Bale wanted to expand the Connor part.

I don't know what's going on with you man, because for ages I always agreed with your assessments and if you (amongst others) said that a film was good I'd be more inclined to see it. But you rated Indy 4 something above utter shit and now this. I think you're just softening up, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I find myself enjoying a lot more chick flicks that the gf wants to see than I ever did so...
Terminator 4 doesn't really know where in the plot that's been established by the previous films it wants to be. McG is an idiot. Seriously guys (yeah I know its Bale) if Nolan had done this wouldn't it have been much, much better. Heck, I wish Lynch or Cronenberg would do one of these big budget, big effects action flicks just for the messed up that would come out of it. And it might be awesome. Cronenberg's Transformers is what I've wished for so hard.

But Connor is going to lead them to victory. Without him the resistance is much more likely to fail.

Seriously, I mean, I even laughed heartily today at someone who described the climax of T4 as:
Quote:
Skynet's evil plan makes Dr Evil look like a genius, its plan is to get the number one targets in the middle of a Terminator factory and send ONE TERMINATOR after them, not a Terminator with a gun mounted to it, but a Terminator who is only capable of throwing its targets at a wall until slightly terminated and when it's dispatched, Skynet does not send any other of its million Terminators against it, maybe it was depressed
yet I still didn't hate it.... WHY. I NEED TO KNOW.

The problem with terminator logic is that any self-respecting evil computer with access to killer robots AND a time machine would just spam terminators all over toddler John Connor until he was totally fucking dead.

But in the original timeline Skynet has lost, decides to send a Terminator and then the resistance take control of the time machine. No more Terminators.

The importance of Connor was that he taught people how to fight back. Once that's done, he's not really as important any more. Losing him might be a blow for morale, but it's hardly a crushing defeat.

Just the other day I saw this cute B flick from 1984 called FIRESTARTER, an adaptation of King's book. It's a standard paranormal action thriller, but worth seeing for three reasons :
- Good performance of 8 years old Drew Barrymore (shortly before she became a junkie, poor kid)
- High quality pyrotechnic effects
- Neat soundtrack by Tangerine Dream
The climax during which angered Charlie ignites the buldings and employees of The Shop strongly reminded me Terminator from some reason of similarity or association : Charlie is walking slowly like a robot, big flames out of focus behind her, she's burning everything and everybody with the power of her mind, even the bullets fired at her are exploding before they hit her. Little Terminatrix. :D
(Firestarter had premiere at May 84, while The Terminator later in October... so this is not plagiarism of T.)
