Did anyone get the impression that the old lady was part of a larger sub-plot that got cut? After discussion, my friends and I suspect she's Sarah Connor.

The movie is supposedly in the continuity of T3 so she would be dead. IIRC John hit the road right after she died so presumably he was there when she did?
Assuming they are in a rational universe, which they obviously aren't.

She was, but it was cut for a damn good reason.
I also liked it. It's a very solid b-level summer action flick with some really good performances, and some very well put together action sequences, let down a bit by a lacklustre ending. It would have been vastly better if the original 'John Connor dies and Marcus Wright becomes John Connor' ending hadn't been cut because of the fan backlash after the leak.
