I have a new character who joined Telvanni and is just doing a few of the very early quests. One of the mouths asked me to get a silver staff of something or other. I learned that Arielle in Sadrith Mora Mages' Guild has such a staff. When I speak to Arielle, she says, like everyone else, 'Arielle has such a staff'. What am I supposed to do/say to get her to part with it?
And another quest, for the Black Jinx ring, which is held by someone in the Morag Tong HQ in Sadrith Mora. He offers to fight me for it. Can I do this without killing him? If I were in the MT, would things be different? What if I kill him and then want to join MT? Will they let me?
Any pointers gratefully received.

(Dear me, I just referred to my character as 'I'. Worrying, or a good ad for the game? Discuss.)

i've just joined Telvanni today and did those first quests as well... but it is strange that Arielle says that, because she just offered to sell it to me... even less that its suggested cost... but my character is nearly a wizard in the guild so their disposition is nearly 100. it can be a result of that. so if u are a new guild member or not a member, you may need to make her love you...
but actualy it sounds like a bug to me...
for the ring thing:
"Go there and speak to Alven Salas; there are a few ways of getting it from him:
If you're at least a Master in the Morag Tong, he'll hand it over,
You can steal it from him (good luck), or
'Persuade' him up to at least 60%, and he'll challenge you to a duel."
this is from: "(

check it if you havent. it really helps... also i don't think it will be a problem in the future if you kill him because he offers to duel and the other guys don't attack you...so u wont be guilty of killing him.

the silver staff, I used frenzy humaniod and killed her. She's not important in the mage's guild anyway.

Thanks. I can now make a more informed decision as to what to do with the MT man. Still not sure 'bout the staff. We'll see.

Remember: Keep the staff, it's used in another quest a little later...

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, if I ever get the staff, that is! I can't get Arielle to say anything other than 'Arielle has such a staff'. Is there a console command?
And I have another Telvanni question- I went into Vivec's Telvanni quarter and suddenly everyone Telvanni (and only Telvanni) has the topic 'Dumac' in the dialogue screen. Why? I now know who he is, due to the amazing synchronicity of him being mentioned on the Help Tuco Sequel thread- but why is everyone wanting to talk about him?

Dumac definately sounds familiar. I've read it in the game, but really can't remember where. I've got an extensive library, so it was probably there... but I'm not going to read all those books.

Dumac Dwarf-King (Dwarf-Orc?) was the last king of the Dwemer. He was apparently killed by Nerevar at the Battle of Red Mountain since he defied any knowledge of Kagrenac's work with the heart. Not sure why that has become a topic - perhaps it's the name of an NPC. Have a look at the Dumac topic in your journal - that may shed some light as to why that it a topic.

Right. Arielle suddenly offered to sell me the staff- but when I took it to the Mouth who gave me the quest she just took it off me. How am I supposed to keep it then? Or do I get it back later?
Like you say Dumac is the king of the Dwemer, who fought with Nerevar and died, blah, blah- this is the only thing they are telling me. I cannot trace what triggered that particular topic, but ALL Telvanni have it in the dialogue box. Still no wiser, then.
Any more ideas? Please?

Ooops! It's the Silver Staff of Peace that you need to keep. So, err, ignore what I said! :O
If you don't beat me to it, I'll have a look in the editor and see why the Dumac topic has come up and let you know.
