I had the mage guild teleport me to Tel Fyr, no problem.
I left the Wolverine Hall, and swam SouthWest as suggested......
But, have no clue where the LARGE TOWER is supposed to be.

if I remember correctly, you're looking for the place with the corpus zombies n' stuff.
All I can tell you is explore the islands around Sadrith mora, Soutwest of it basically.

Switch on the World map (instead of Local) and Tel Fyr should show up, if you have gotten a quest involving it.

It wasnt a stone tower, it was made out of large VINES, it was almost the last island, if you swim a 45 degree angle toward the main coast line, it was very far. As I said, the very last island before hitting the coast. It looks like a bunch of huge acorns attached to a big vine! I was climbing on top of it to get a good look around, when I realized I was right on top of it, OMG! RFLMAO!!! I am cured! lol
