Technical Problem - Riva TNT2 32MB with DetonatorXP drivers gives 'blackout' bug? - by stoxy

(First off, I didn't see a FAQ or technical forum, sorry if this doesn't belong here)
When I first played Deus Ex, I had a weird bug where textures were corrupted 10 metres or so away from you (I assumed mip-mapping took place here); and the game ran *very* slowly when a big area appeared.
Yesterday, I installed the Game of the Year edition; and was happy to note that the textures now work correctly. However, I now have another problem: when I set off a TNT crate, or throw a LAM, the explosion turns my screen completly black for several seconds.
As I remember, the screen should be white for a few frames, then fade back to normal vision; and it appears my screen is black for the time this fade should be happening.
I have an nVidia Riva TNT2 32MB card, and since I last played DX, I have installed Detonator XP drivers.
Is anyone familiar with this bug, or can provide general technical tips?
Thanks

The game, she works fine for me:
pII/400 Mhz
256MB RAM
32MB TNT2 Ultra (Diamond Viper 770, to be specific)
I'm also using the Detonator drivers and it works great for me. What renderer are you using? OpenGL? Direct3D?

Thanks. OpenGL's not great, but it works, and the game is less sluggish (a few frames dropped when a large scene comes into view)

Yeah, the game's like that ... you start outside and it's choppy. Then you go inside and it's fine. :)
Check your DeusEx.ini file. If you're using OpenGL, under the section
[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
make sure you have the line
UseTNT=1

I'm using Direct3D and it runs great in 800x600x32
