And then I remember that I would only get a Blu-ray player if it wasn't region-coded. Phew. :D
You do know that ~70% of Blu-ray discs are region free, right?

The ones that I'm most interested in - namely the Criterion Collection - aren't, so those 70% don't help one bit, I'm afraid.

Ah right, I want some of those too - namely the Kurosawa and Wong Kar Wai films. I bought a Yank PS3 for the express purpose of Region A playback (PS3 game playback is region free and at least my model had a universal PSU). But there's already some British Region B's that I'd like to get.

Hmmm. Now *that* is interesting. Thanks for the info!

I guess it's ironic that I'm the one who happened to take that particular screenshot. :D

That is what's holding me back from getting Blue-Ray also.
On topic: That new trailer looks intriguing and equal parts epic and charming so I'm certainly interested. But yeah if the Criterion Collection doesn't get it's shit together with region free Blu-Rays then I won't be getting a PS3 anyway.:p

Just watched the E3 trailer this morning. Why is it that the PS3 usually does worse in a direct comparison with the XBox360, but it's got the exclusives that I care about? Grumble...
Quick question (haven't been able to find anything online, mainly because our internet at work filters lots of sites): if I were to get a US PS3 (60GB version, ideally, because of the backwards compatibility), could I play European PS2 titles on it?
Malf on 4/6/2009 at 07:18
There's been a few titles recently where the difference has been low to minimal, with some PS3 versions even apparently surpassing the 360 version.
Bionic Commando for example, while not having any anti-aliasing on the PS3 version, has none of the screen-tearing that is present throughout the 360 version.
And personally, if a game comes out on both systems, I'm much more likely to buy the PS3 version, as I've had my 360 die on me twice now, which has shaken my faith in the system.
Edit: Thirith, I couldn't rightly say. I doubt it. I think the PS3's region-free status doesn't stretch to the PS2 compatibility hardware. Also, note that the 60GB versions which are no longer manufactured were the ONLY versions able to play PS2 games. Modern PS3s have no backwards-compatibility, aside from some PS1 games available for purchase through PSN.

You spent the whole first page arguing it's a Gryphon. Don't give me that shit now.
