Fantastic mission!!....any help appreciated....
I can see the Yellow Gem...but its inside a cage...how do I open the cage,as I keep being seen and killed by the patrolling haunts...I don't seem to be able to kill them and they are too quick for me with a sword, unless you have found a way to dispatch them, this is my last objective, and I have limited weapons now
Lord Taffer on 29/1/2025 at 15:58
JonesCrusher you can kill these haunts but it's tough as they have increased hit points. It's possible to sneak so that haunts won't attack you. It's quite challenging. You can open the yellow gem cage --> go to a small room opposite the cage and frob something here.

that final frob,in the opposite room helped...I had tried there, but must have missed it...but also wondered why the box the harps were on was not centrally positioned.that should have told me something was amiss there and to further investigate

Is there a speedpotion somewhere? can't make the jump to get Sintabaz red
Lord Taffer on 12/2/2025 at 20:28
Hey griswold, I think there isn't a speed potion anywhere, not 100% sure if I remember correctly. You should be able to strafe jump to that higher level where a mage patrols.
Strafe jump from above the brazier as it seems climbing above the torch is very tedious. --> (https://postimg.cc/7CP072jZ)

Finished the mission today on Expert. Took me about four and a half hour with slightly more loot than the required minimum. Was really surprised to learn that the total loot is over 8000. I felt I thoroughly explored the map and found several corners and hidden rooms with loot. Well, nothing humbles a taffer more than the mission itself telling you how much you actually missed.
Somehow managed to find the Artifact of Seasons before everything else. Then I found the Crimson and Azure Stone after checking out areas I previously visited. For the Yellow Stone I actually needed to look at some of the hints posted in this thread. I did find the roof with the patrolling skeleton but never would've thought about interacting with the mask. Ironically I found the scepter last, after going to the museum for a third time. Don't know how I missed it but that probably explains why I also missed so much loot. Didn't find the bracelte but at this point I decided to call it a day.
Overall it was a well-designed level that rewarded exploration. I love the visual design of the enemies on the map. Especially the different undead mobs. That said, climbing in Thief can be really, really frustrating. I lost count of how many times I fell to my death trying to climb a rope arrow or making a jump. At one point I had to take a break. Tolham also does feel like a video game level and not like a real place where actually people live. How do the people in this town get from A to B? For example: There's no path that leads to the Hammerite church. You either need to climb or use a secret tunnel. And nobody thought about building a bridge over the lava river or at least added safety railings to prevent drunk tavern patrons from stumbling to their fierce death?

OK.
9 1/2 hours in (!!!) on Expert.
I have all of the major objectives, the two optionals, and one bonus.
I have 6607 loot (hard to believe there is still 2300 loot out there !!??).
But I have a question. If the answer has already been given here, I missed it.
To wit:
Immediately to the east of the three arch bridge next to the lava river, in the small open area adjacent to the corridor under the bridge where walks the easily outraged (but harmless) guard, there is a gate in the north of the open area behind which walks a haunt. I can see a lock which highlights behind the gate. None of the keys I have work, and the lock goes dark when lockpicks are applied.
Am I missing a key, or is there another way to access this area? I have searched and searched by many avenues of approach but am unable to solve this.
A clue perhaps?
Never mind. As is often the case, after asking the question, I went back and found the turn that I missed and found the area in question. I'm at 7132 loot now, and still missing a bonus objective (from what I gather from posts above mine).
OK. 10 hours 59 minutes 25 seconds
7502 loot found. Still >1400 to go (!!!!!?????). Where the hell can it all be?
All major objectives, two optional, and both daggers.
I'll have to let that be it.
In many ways, this is a perfect Thief mission for the core mechanics of the game.
Diligent searching is rewarded, and you have to search EVERYWHERE.
Striving to reach "unreachable" locations is also rewarded, and the ingenuity is fully taxed.
The map's complexity is extreme and sometimes bewildering, with the many ways to go and the multiple approaches constantly leading one to lose focus on the problem at hand to see what's on the next ledge.
Sneaking and hiding in shadows might be slightly de-emphasized in favor of pure exploration, but still have their place.
A must play mission par excellence.

Thanks for playing the mission!
Here are some loot tips with screenshots. These could be some of those you might have missed.
004: Easy to miss, low --> close to lava and close to doorway.
006: End of the hallway (Lost City area), climb up to find quite hidden loot, also corridors end has loot.
010: Here is small loot and lower (use rope arrow) there's another loot. You might have missed one of these.
012: Low level in this screenie, well hidden loot there.
013, 014: Close to Sir D's 'chambers', this pathway has some well hidden loot, two pieces.
017: Sir D's chambers, one loot piece is somewhat hidden here.
023: Find a way up, there's loot piece here.
025: In this small outside area, there are multiple loot. Maybe one of them is quite hidden.
027: This might be one of those easy to miss loot places. Hint: climb --> search windows, two loot pieces.Screenies:

Thanks for the screens. I can't specifically remember any of these except for 004. That one I got.
Back to work!
For the record: 13 hours 58 minutes 37 seconds so far
I'm up to 7672 loot. Less than 1300 to go! Yoohoo!
OK. I think I recognize 006 (the images are rather dark, but my memory is the problem). I got the loot up and at end.
017 cleverly disguised
010 Yep! missed one
012 After going back to the location, I think I remember getting that one.
013 I missed that one!
014 Either I got it, or it's hidden up the ventilation alcove where I can't go
OK. I got all of these, either the first time through or with the screenies' help.
Now, I really have to call it a day on this one.
I've ridden the skull and made it to the top of the fire tower (nice view).
I have 7749 loot, leaving STILL over 1100, wherever it is, to go "Tee Hee! You can't find me!"
I've been in this mission 15 hours 22 minutes 53 seconds, not counting hundreds of reloads.
Not a complaint. This mission is just that good from a Thief perspective.
So the MORAL OF THE STORY is this:
Look everywhere. Take nothing for granted. Try to put your feet on every horizontal pixel. If you can see a ledge a mile up, find a way to get there. Keep an eye out for nooks and crannies. Look from multiple angles. Lord Taffer is a clever guy.
Is he too clever for you?
