I got a new monitor with non-standard resolution (1680x1050 instead of 1600x1200). As a result TDS showed me a distorted and flattened out picture. Changing resolution into the TDS main menu gave nothing. But these magic rows into DEFAULT.INI file (from the GAME folder, not from the editor) helped me a lot:
[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
FullscreenViewportX=1680
FullscreenViewportY=1050
and
[XBoxDrv.XBoxClient]
FullscreenViewportX=1680
FullscreenViewportY=1050
Now I can see a distortion-free picture in TDS - both in the game and test-mode. :thumb:
Does anyone know more little pretty tricks with DEFAULT.INI?

Do you have a 16:10 monitor? I don't know right now if your resolution fits that, but I've used the old res=-1 tweak in the options ini file in the save games folder to get it to wide screen. I wouldn't change the Default.ini myself since I have made a couple of changes there (font(size) + numbers of rows, AI awareness etc.) which force me to add it to the FM zip... but not every player will like to have a new resolution. I don't know if it's possible to get it into a user.ini to override only certain parts of the Default.ini, though.

I also have a monitor LG W2284F-PF with 1680x1050 resolution but what attracted me to buy it was the ability to switch the ratio to 4:3. Two black lines appear to the both sides of the screen in 4:3 mode and Thief can be played just fine. I have not tried the wide screen patch yet.
Unfortunately, my PC is an old one and at 1280x1024 or higher the game starts to lag, so I play it at 1024x768.
However, thanks Tiens for sharing that information. When I buy a new computer, I will definitely try this.:)

Actually I don't understand why you have decided that I'm going to share my Default.ini with anyone. This tweak is for this particular type of monitors only. That's why I changed file Default.ini INTO THE GAME'S FOLDER. Default.ini into the editor's folder is still unchanged.

These are the tricks I'm asking about.

I thinks, it is not possible. As far as I understand, file User_patch.ini overrides parts into User.ini only. I suggest that file named "Default_patch.ini" will override parts into Default.ini but I don't know for sure. No one did this before.

You're welcome.

The rest of changes to the Default.ini (which thus must be shipped with the FM) are in fact my reason not to change the resolution in it. AFAIK everything in the user.ini overrides similar entries in the Default.ini, however, I'm not sure if it works if we add our changes into user(_patch).ini.
I'm going to paste some of my changes, although I'm still figuring the font things since there appear problems on other PCs.
