now i'm in the second mission and there are a lot of questions
how can i get to the upper floors?
what's it all about the chess ? how does this work?
grest design of the hotel

Look around the great hall, which is the large room to the west of the front desk. More specific hint: check the balcony overhanging that room for an object that will unlock the double doors downstairs.
As for the chess set, there are 16 chess pieces hidden around the hotel that open a secret area.
Hope that helps :)

Nightingale isn't at room 10 or any information ?????? and now?
pukey brunster on 22/12/2018 at 17:48
Hmm.. well, he certainly should be in room 10. Either way, the information you need to read is in room #10. You just need to look up high a bit in there. Outright spoiler: His journal on top of the armoire.
Please make sure to add spoilers, please, for other players (room 10 is something discovered by reading the front desk registry.

What a delight, that second mission was! Really felt like Rowena's Curse with it's beautiful, but oppressive atmosphere.
I loved how 3-d all the spaces were---tall ceilings, and lots of inter-floor connectivity. Beautifully done!
I'm still missing a couple thousand loot, so I have plenty to look forward to...

I believe that's a matter of positioning your view. In other words when dropping the items into fountain, look a little higher. This way dropped items will make noise, but this should work. At least it worked for me.
I found this a little confusing because I was
dropping items on the second level, and two items became unfrobbable when they landed on the square texture in the water. Later I realized I needed to
drop them on the third level. There is a hole the player can drop down via rope arrow near
Elizabeth's bones, but every time I shot a rope arrow into the beam I would die instantly as soon as I touched the rope. I solved this by
standing on the beam and I shot a rope arrow into the floor.I somehow survived a fall into the deep ravine outside the hotel.
I just finished with and 2/3 of max loot. Now I need to go back and solve some puzzles.
This was a truly amazing mission!! :D

Ah, that makes sense why you were having trouble with dropping items in the fountain, but glad you figured it out.
As for the hole in ceiling above the bones, did you notice that there were tunnels you could instead go through on either side above the beams? They aren't brightly lit, but those are the way to get out of that spot without taking damage.
Wow, you survived a fall into the canyon! That's something.. hope you didn't save down there though. That drop should typically kill any player.
Glad you had fun, and please let us know if you have any more questions :)
john9818a on 23/12/2018 at 01:33
Well I'm not sure about the tunnels but I was on the beam barely exposed in the floor just above the ground floor. On normal I probably would have survived a jump without a rope arrow but on expert Garret is made of glass. :joke:
It must have been a fluke because I tried jumping down into the ravine again and died.

Okay, you're in another spot than I was thinking. For an alternate route to the lower area (and others) take a closer look at the fireplaces.
