Hmmm, it's not in the
Rose garden, unless it's really well hidden. I also opened the
other garden with the skull key, but can't find it there either

It is in fact in the Rose Garden, though it is pretty well hidden. Hint: read the message Pud left you carefully. More blatant hint: "ahead in the garden, under it be" is meant to be taken phonetically.

Playing through this at the moment. Melan, your Dromed skills are beyond reproach, but even as an experienced taffer I'm finding this mission frustrating and fun in equal measures. The detail in the town area is immense, but roof top antics, in particular, feel like they're designed to push player skills to the limit rather than encourage some fun exploration.
In the Grandmauden: I can't progress, can't find any keys or doors I can unlock with picks. Edit: Found the one place I could rope up to from the "middle" area. This is very clever, advanced Thief level design but I'm very frustrated with all the fake doors.

Just started this and it looks fantastic.
The AI meshes seem to be low poly versions despite my game being patched with TFix and all enhancements enabled. Even the original missions have hi poly meshes for AI, just this mission does not.
Is it by design, and is there a way around it?

Replayed this amazing mission and I wrote a poem inspired by the general atmosphere of the level and the Rose Garden itself.
Wilted Roses
The bone-chilling wind rushes through the night
As it picks up unspoken lies and cries
Carrying them high to the frost-cold skies
To be torn apart by the air’s raw might
Spectral hosts of icy autumnal gale
Rattle mercilessly the alehouse sign
A warm shelter where weather is benign
And glum ruminations cease to assail
Restless like a nocturnal beast of prey
The wind snakes around dark, unpaved alleys
Finding its path like creeks in strait valleys
Dousing candles where the pious monks pray
Swarming up the rooftops and looming spires
It sheds off brown leaves from almost bare trees
In a remote garden where lovers squeeze
And braziers blaze with Sibylline fires
Playing hide and seek in a tall hedge maze
The stiff wind turns into a balmy breeze
As the swains in a fiery embrace freeze
Cloaked by love’s forgetfulness like a haze
In an eerie silence that soon follows
A lonesome nightjar sings ominously
While the wind chimes ring mysteriously
And strange croaks come from the unknown hollows
In the first days of winter’s dreadful reign
Only the faint scent of wilted roses
Can recall those delightful reposes
That heralded long months of the heart’s pain
