The face on the back of the prisoner was caused by a line in
cam.cfg. The line read "character_detail 0"; changing the number to 1 performed some plastic surgery on the prisoner and made him much less creepy, the face being on the front of his head once more.
Interesting. Yeah, it seems (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150998) others have had this same problem with Raoul's model/textures in other missions. Well, now I know for (hypothetical) next time!

Hey, the mission is throwing me into a debug room saying I need NewDark 1.26 and squirrel.osm but I have the most recent update of TFix?
Been really looking forward to go through the full 20th Anniversary Contest roster, so not being able to do this one is real annoying.

This error happens when the game can't find the correct version of squirrel.osm to load. NewDark 1.26 or 1.27 is fine. I've just double-checked on clean installs of Thief Gold with TFix 1.26, 1.26a or 1.27, and each works as intended. So something is different about your install; with a bit more information should be able to sort this out.
Firstly, what FM loader are you using?
Secondly, can you private message me the contents of
THIEF.log from your Thief directory, immediately after trying the mission and exiting Thief?
Thirdly, can you use Explorer to search your Thief install directory for
squirrel.osm, and choose
View, Details, and resize any columns that are truncated, and then PM me a screenshot of the result?

Well, firstly, tried a clean install by just installing Thief Gold, then downloading and installing the most recent TFix, and then tried the mission. Got sent to the debug room.
Then instead of using Angelloader, I tried using FMSel. Which worked.
As for the log file, it said it was unable to successfully load squirrel.osm. So presumably, something about Angelloader can't properly load the squirrel.osm file, whereas FMSel can.
And as for the explorer screenshot, I have it right here.

Thanks. The screenshot confirms you have the right version of the osm in the usual place. I wanted to see the details of thief.log because it shows the configuration that is in effect, not only the error message! But since you've narrowed it down to a difference between AngelLoader and FMSel, I will try to replicate that here, and follow up with Fen if it looks like an AngelLoader bug.
Edit: I can't get the same problem happening here with AngelLoader, it's still working for me with it. If you can send me the thief.log from a failed launch it would help. Extra points if you could send me your thief .cfg files and AngelLoader config.ini :D

Sent it! Or at least I think I did.

Yep, got it. So TFix puts squirrel.osm in the OSM subdirectory, and sets "uber_mod_path OSM" in cam_mod.ini so that the game can find it*. But your thief.log shows that uber_mod_path is not being set at all.
I think what is probably happening here is you have selected
Disable All Mods for this fm in AngelLoader. Unfortunately using this option (which is equivalent to putting
* in
Mod Path Excludes in FMSel) disables the uber_mod_path config as well as the other mod config options. Instead, you should manually list all the mods to disable in AngelLoader's
Disabled Mods field. The simplest way to do this is to find the
mod_path setting in
cam_mod.ini and copy+paste the value of the setting into Disabled Mods. For example, in my cam_mod.ini from a default TFix install, the line reads:
Code:
mod_path usermods+mods\packfix+mods\candles+mods\EP\Thief1+NecroAge\Thief1+NecroAge+EP2\Thief1+EP2+mods+mods\t2skies+mods\EP+FMdml
and so I put into Disabled Mods:
Code:
usermods+mods\packfix+mods\candles+mods\EP\Thief1+NecroAge\Thief1+NecroAge+EP2\Thief1+EP2+mods+mods\t2skies+mods\EP+FMdml
(*I would argue this is a fault in TFix; squirrel.osm is a stock part of NewDark since 1.25, not a mod, and really shouldn't be installed as if it were a mod. But for now, it is what it is.)

Can confirm that this works.
Thanks!

I've just finished this excellent mission (v1.1), and there's something I couldn't figure out.
[spoiler]Can the brick wall in the works station north of the plaza be broken down? I've tried bringing a powder keg from the sanctuary and blowing it up with a fire arrow, but it didn't work.[/spoiler]

As far as I remember, it is not possible to open this wall from the city side. You can reach it from the other side and pull a lever or something like that. To get to that side of the wall, you have to get into the room where you get rid of your main opponent(s), the ritual room, and from there you can take an easy-to-miss second way out which brings you to the other side of that wall.
