Is the audio 'clipping' or is it just too loud compared to the rest of the sound environment?
Ha ;D That is hard and tricky question ;) So, the only true answer is - both of them ;PP
OK, but to the point: Of course the clipping is "time-short", so there is no dynamic override or super high distorted sound, but still tiny/little clipping exists :) So - let's officially name it as "too loud" :)

The whole problem is probably not too big for people who keeping their Ambient Vol-Sliders low. I mean 25% or lower. But if You love Thief music and ambience and 'hit it' to 50% - problem appears immediately especially when You are using good sound hardware (high sound resolution, high dynamic range). This six files in SND folder sounds too loud compared to other ambient and more important sounds like far enemy footsteps and enemy taunts. Another thing is: some harmonics peaks are the same or very similar to Thief-wind and cave-hum sounds, and when they sounded together the phenomenon becomes unbearable for longer period of time. It is bad not by distortion, but by appearing some unwanted amplification (boost) in specific frequencies.
Good example is inside the well. There are two ambient sounds at the same time, and if the third - Viki's laugh - join them, some freqs going to be amplificated too much when Viki's sound level is like in picture above.
It would not be a big problem if this happened once, twice, even 10 times in whole mission, but there is very serious sneaking lasting for hours - almost 6 hours in my case - so, for such long time of playing this six files has tired my ears very much :)
I had no Builder's patience on my side for this, and after about 2,5h of playing decided to edit this files for my personal comfort. Builder forgive me ;)
As I said, there is no a big problem to all. Most people probably will not notice it or don't care. But for example exactly the same thing was happened years ago in DrK's A Night in Rocksbourg First Part. Just Quake 1 sound-quote and some other ambient sounds was too loud. There was even a patch file to repair this - and even that - it not repairs all problems and gives one more :D There are a few other FMissions where I need to cool down the ambient, so the problem is common and depends on listener's sensibility and sound hardware they have.

I see what you mean. The ambience does get too abrasive when those settings are in place. I never thought about upping the music against the sound in the Options to test the loudness. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I will certainly be mindful of it in the future. And I certainly don't mind that you edited the sound files for your and others convenience. Whatever makes the experience better!:thumb:

This mission is amazing - the layout was so detailed and complex, I was constantly turned around and never quite figured it out. Perfect for the type of mission it was. I've got everything done except I haven't run across the Mystic's Soul yet - I feel like I must be missing something obvious after reading other comments in this thread. Can someone give me a hint?

Just south of the guard barracks, do you recall seeing a circular recession in the wall with three stone heads in different positions? Try investigating that.
McTaffer on 7/12/2018 at 16:58
Yes, alternatively, there's also another way in through the smaller private library near that area.
You can see the Soul floating in a hole in the middle of the gigantic circular window above the front door, though you can't access it from there.

I just started this mission, and it is great so far. I am curious. What happens if one does not buy the silver key at loadout? I did, so I am progressing nicely. Would that trap the player, or is there another way?
Edit: I found another silver key, in an almost secret area in the library, but only after passing through several doors requiring a silver key, so I am still a bit confused about the "correct" sequence.

There is no such "thing" as "correct sequence". You do what You want, You go where You want to.
There is more than one Silver Key in the mission area and You don't need to buy it in loadout.____________________________

I switched on five particle beams aimed at a white stone on a pedestal. That's all I could see with a bird's-eye view. Nothing happened. Then I found a telescope that shot particles into a tube. Nothing happened. Am I missing something, or is this just eye candy?

Yes, You have missed a readable which explains the thing, or You just not found it yet :)
smithpd on 9/12/2018 at 10:36
I read the readable, and I found a thing -- the Adviser's Emblem. It had a particle beam going down into the sarcophagus. I don't know what did it, the five antenna beams, the telescope beam, or both. I had to kill 3 AI to get it, so the ghost run is busted. Tomorrow I still have to find the stones.
