Thor and Spooks over at The Dark Mod forums discovered that the mission fails to load if you have Object Detail set to below "normal" in your advanced video
settings. The workaround is to increase object detail to normal then turn it back to low after loading the mission. Here is a repack of the mission which includes
a fix:

There are two possibilities here.
1) The objectives have some design problem where optional objectives aren't optional.
Resolution: Complete the optional ones.
2) You are hitting a known bug which will be fixed in v2.04 where Objectives memory can become corrupt if you have more than 16.
Resolution: Try replaying the mission and completing the objectives in a different order. (Possibly resolvable by completing the optional objectives too.)
If you cannot get the mission to complete after trying either of the above, post a game save at The Dark Mod forums so we can investigate further.

bunch of books at the bottom of a shelf that I can grab, but none are readable

I'm pretty sure that's a known bug with the card playing animation. If you save at just the wrong time it will capture the animation state in limbo.
I believe there will be a fix in v2.04 but I will request that you post your savegame at the TDM forums so the Dev's can look.

I tried to do it properly with translation strings but I got a blank page so one readable is not translatable for now.
