trying to taunt the comona tong into atacking me on balmora...but even with taunt successes nothing? other than starting the fight myself, how do i taunt them to attack me, otherwise its a crime, and thats a pain to do (pack rat theif, i hate dropping all my stolen stuff).

To get someone to attack you you need to get several taunt successes, one just wont do it. You'll know when they're pissed off because they'll say something like 'That does it!' and all you can say in "reply" is 'goodbye'. Then the fighting starts.
What level is your Speechcraft skill at...?

The NPC's disposition has to be above 0 for the taunts to have a chance of working. If you taunt them and it drops to 0, you have to butter them up before taunting them again.
A fortify luck spell/potion is useful here.

an interesting trick to this is if you taunt them successfully and then their disposition drops to 0 due to unsuccessful tries, you can bribe them to get the disp. back up and then taunt them successfully again, I think it is 3-5 times. then once you kill them you can get your money back...
