It seems really unlikely that Thief 4 will get named Game of the Year. If you look at Dishonored, sure they're selling a GOTY Edition and it probably was some site's game of the year, but it didn't really get praised by the gaming press other than just being acknowledged as an entertaining and well put together game.
The game got incredibly high review scores. The PC version was the 7th highest scoring game of last year on Metacritic for any platform, and first place for PC games overall last year. The only reason it didn't win a bazillion GOTY awards is that everyone inexplicably decided to give that stinkfest QTE-laden machinima The Walking Dead all of their GOTY awards.

Your problem is you think that The Walking Dead is all about the action.

Maybe that should indicate something to you then? Seriously, you are the only person I've seen that's ripped the game, everyone else usually talks about how awesome it is.

That's not a reasonable argument though - sometimes at work I find myself in rooms where everyone except me is intensely interested in what went on in the latest reality tv show nonsense last night and this doesn't mean I've got bad taste for not wanting to watch it.
The reasonable argument is - the game isn't really about the QTEs or the action so cares how many QTEs it has?

I'm actually surprised A) that they answered the water question at all, and B) after deciding to answer it, they didn't have a better response prepared. The question has been asked a lot over in the Eidos forums, and they had to know after TDS that it's fairly important issue to some fans. Again, just like with b1skit, they seem really out of touch with the fan base.
So another part of the classic Thief experience has been removed. I think at least 75% of the OMs in T1/T2 had swimmable water - so much for "sticking to the DNA."
On a side note, after thinking on it a bit, I think it's funny that EM has been praised for removing bad things from the game - QTEs, XP system, and 3rd person climbing come to mind. This stuff never should have been there in the first place. Why give them credit for their awful design decisions? The only reason they're removing it is because of the fan backlash, not because they think these specific systems are bad.
I would have to agree with you all. I think that if they really want to see how to make a good, solid game. They should know where to turn "us". If they weren't so stuck up, and getting rid of Stephen Russell to start it. They're not pulling the wool over my eyes. Anyways, to re-instate my claim earlier that they need to look here and inquire about game opinions, the best example is that T2 is what, 12 years old and just as good as what they have...... Oh, that's right, they don't have anything yet. Thief 4 has been delayed how many times on it's release date already (approx. 3-4).I like seeing a good series go out on a great note, but this takes the cake for lame, dull -a**. This is "Thief", not Saints-Row, Grand-Theft auto, or any of that other crud. All of you have nailed it... As I've mentioned twice, they can ask Authors, users, and our moderators, whom themselves are fellow authors, or who have played so many FMs that they know what testing is all about..... Well, I've left my 2 cents worth. It's not great, but a small start. :)
You won't be seeing me pre-ordering it, or waiting until the last minute to buy just after it's released. I think based on the petition that Vae posted, about Stephen R. backs up for a large part.

Wrong, it's a perfectly good argument. Comparing it to some reality show on the other hand is not. Reality shows aren't out there winning Emmys, and they have plenty of detractors if you're paying close enough attention. My point was that I literally haven't heard anyone criticizing The Walking Dead, so just
maybe that might indicate that the game is actually good.
I'm guessing from his phrasing too that he hasn't even tried the game firsthand.

I own the game and played through it. Having a decent story doesn't automatically make a game good. There's no skill involved in the game, nor is there any real choice. The game doesn't do a single thing that involves the player other than forcing you to keep clicking to watch more cutscenes and occasionally throwing crap QTEs at you.
Your choices effectively change nothing about how the story plays out, and the game is designed with an illusion making you think your choices are doing something, when 95% of the time, they aren't.
Anyway, the fact that I think The Walking Dead is a stinking pile of crap that doesn't deserve to be called a game doesn't have anything to do with the topic. The point was, Dishonored was universally praised by just about the entire gaming press.

It isn't about the action. Still that doesn't excuse the plethora of QTEs plugging up the space between cutscenes and dialog trees.
Maybe it's just me, but the bare minimum for "Game of the Year" should atleast sport gameplay which goes beyond button prompts or moving your cursor to the next condescending object highlight. Perhaps they need to introduce an "Interactive Movie of the Year" for next year's rewards?
I mean no disrespect to point & click adventure games. TWD is definitely worth the price of admission just for its emotional rollercoaster of a story. On the other hand even the year's latest Call of Duty provides a more captivating gameplay experience than TWD, and having said that, the fact that it managed to win over Dishonored makes it all seem like a very cruel joke.

That doesn't make sense. If the game isn't about QTE's, then every QTE in the game dilutes the experience the game
is about.
