K..it was at school during a particularly brutal game of murder-ball, I was getting the shit pummelled out of me on account I couldn't make my flabbid big thighs go fast like I wanted them to be doing to make me just run like blazing hell all over that gym and then...i just got this massive mother of all cramps down in my tackle..fekin floored me it did. Then i found this.

Actually I was initially looking up testicular cramps.

I've read things in the media over the years that have suggested that we stop using words like 'ark' or 'manger' because children don't know what they mean
Doubt it, I don't use those words because they're pretty much religious words, and I'm athiest. Any child that goes to church will know what those are (and I'm betting 50% or more go to church). I don't see a reason to use those words.. I'm betting those things in the media are religious

I would guess in the UK that church attendance by children is a lot lower than 50%.
There is no real reason to use those words, I just don't understand why the reaction to children not knowing what they mean is to stop using them. People seem to leave school now unable to read well or do basic maths.

They're not so much religious words as they are archaic. That's why you don't hear them used so often anymore.
You might still be able to slide them into a conversation, but it'd come off a little awkward. You could just use chest or stable instead.

'Noah's Ship' and 'Chest of the Covenant' don't sound right to me.
'Manger' and 'ark' might well be archaic, but we still teach Shakespeare in secondary school, despite it being full of terms no longer in use today.
I remember doing 'Romeo & Juliet' and it was a nightmare of mispronounced words and line numbers being read out.
