you are shit, now dont post for a while ok?
Was that directed at me? Sorry if I hit too close to home, but I believe kids are being over-coddled today. I
was one of the losers - smart poor kid at a rich kid school. Getting picked next to last was no fun. But I learned that life goes on. So many kids today are getting "educations" but have no idea of how to function in the adult world. Teachers aren't supposed to fail students because it's bad for their self-esteem. Parents aren't supposed to discipline kids. A lot of kids could use a good spanking now & then. Self-esteem is all good & fine, but what does that get you when you're living on the streets because you can't hold a job?

Hey, Pavlovscat's right. Kids are gettin asthma 'cos their parents keep them too clean (no, really). There are some genuine monsters being created because some kids are not used to EVER hearing words such as, 'No, you can't do that'. or, 'you failed: better luck next time.'
There was a study recently in the UK that proved that not being allowed to 'negotiate the rules' in playground/ street games was seriously damaging children's ability to interact socially. This was because so many parents kept their kids at home in case bad things happened, but a bad thing IS happening - many are growing into psychopaths or reclusive, terrified loners.
I speak with the authority of a seriously anonymous teacher.

Back in my day we played dodgeball by firing cannons at each other, and we were happy to pay the King for the priviledge.

This is a shame, when else can you acceptably act out agressive impulses than as a child. My favorite example of this was Bloody knuckles or Slapjack, where basically the only goal was to see how much pain you could take and give.

Another Willett parent, Celeste D'Elia, said her son feels safer because of the rule. "I've witnessed enough near collisions," she said.
Holy shit. Let's hope Celeste D'Elia never witnesses a near collision involving Motor Vehicles, or that shit is just going to blow her mind and she's going to live out her days in the Boston Institute for the mentally disturbed.

Zero tolerance for kids having fun at school. then? They of that mindset are probably the same fat ones who were the first one out the games or tagged it and couldn't tag anyone else cept the kid who had to wear the helmet to school. Aggression is the reason to play. I thinks its retarded that todays kids cant get hurt and can't compete to win. Thats all the world is once your out in it. Full of people who were taught to be competative and all these nancy boys and girls are going to get mowed down in their employment and any other aspect of their lives. Then there will be no developement or evolution if there is no competition. I say schools shoud be banned for damaging kids.

Poor little kiddies might get slightly injured. And, then, there's the mental anguish of team selection which always leaves the losers until last.
What got to me was being picked last because of social reasons rather than ability. I was good at netball and as goalkeeper made it damned hard for the other team to score, but I didn't care what my they thought of me, listened to music I liked not what got into the charts, dressed how I wanted and read books. None of which, I think, makes me a loser.
Not that I think team games should be banned, but a lot of bullying can happen during sport which maybe games teachers should be better at dealing with.

That is exactly my opinion about this, there are other important things kids need to learn other than the stuff they read in books, you need to learn some factors of life as you live your own life. But of course this over-cuddling nowdays is making that learning take longer or not get learnt at all...
I'm very visually impaired and I didn't ask my parents to sue the school when basketballs hit me on the head at full speed, I just dealt with the pain and a small headache. Accidents happen.
