For my true thief style I used a minicrossbow with normal darts only, and a baton.

How about shooting at right arm only? This will cause the enemy to drop his weapon and flee. It is also possible using normal darts to reduce enemy's health point to critical to cause him dropping weapon, but it's very hard to control.
