Yes and yes. It's the safest way for now. After tafferpatcher finishes its work in a new folder you can delete the Steam version of the game provided you've chosen a full install.
thx. though it would be great if you could also add a steam install option in future versions, just for the vain purpose of being able to play from steam and having friends see your aristocratic status of playing a thief game. ;)
Steam doesn't overwrite stuff anymore like in the past, unless you verify cache integrity, or the game is patched, which won't be happening at this point in time.

still not clear to me: does tafferpatcher add the customscripts to the install?
(NVscript, tnhscript en script)
made a new install, tafferpatched it. all working fine
to my suprise the scripts were there..
been working on my mission. noticed my elevators didn't work properly.
after a lot of puzzling it turned out that the TrigWaypoint script didn't work.
NVSpy told me WaypointReached message is send but no On was given??
went to woopdedo and got me a new ( ~~) version of the script. installed it and wham... my elevators started working again..
or is this the nasty bug refered to in the last post??

If you want to see NVscript being updated to the latest version, it would surely be helpfull to add a link to it.

sorry if I wasn't clear enough. But TrigWaypoint comes with the public script (script.osm)

this is the version I reinstalled
NVSpy I used to figure out what was (not) going on;)

I got scripts from there:
(
http://thiefmissions.com/scripts/)
The link nightshifter provided has the newer version of script.osm, so I'll update it from there. Is there a new version of Darkhooks.dlx?

ok, that are the GayleSaver's Custom Scripts. Telliamed came with the "custom scripts" to replace those scripts.

So does it mean darkhooks.dlx of 2003 are fine to be kept for compatibility with old FMs, but now all those scripts are incorporated into other script modules so no new FMs will use this file?

I'm not sure: I recall that it was advised to use the public scripts instead of Gaylesaver. I believe the public scripts are a complete replacement for Gaylesavers scripts, rewritten and with extra stuff
but being a complete noob , I think it is time the real script guru's come in

found this on (
http://dromed.whoopdedo.org/public_scripts/install) the dromesday book
Upgrading from Older Scripts
The main Public Scripts script module is named script.osm. This is the same name as an older script module distributed as “Gaylesaver's Custom Scripts”. The reason the names are the same is because Public Scripts includes scripts that do the same thing as the “Gaylesaver” scripts. These are not merely copies, but completely new scripts made to be compatible, but with less problems than the originals. The “Gaylesaver” scripts are no longer being updated, so I am providing Public Scripts as an improved alternative.
You cannot have both Public Scripts and the “Gaylesaver” scripts installed at the same time. When you install Public Scripts the old script.osm will be overwritten. The old file darkhooks.dlx is not removed, however. This is harmless, but if you have no intention of ever using the “Gaylesaver” scripts again, then you probably want to delete it.btw: that link brings you to public scripts 2.1 (pre-release)
(
http://whoopdedo.org/projects.php?scripts#PublicScripts) this one gives you the final release. :)
