Sorry, that was a joke :) Your hardware is top-notch. I don't know what the problem could be. What Windows are you using? Have you perhaps played with Catalyst settings?

messing with vsync is not recommended. make sure bloom is off, and that you are not forcing anything via your gpu control panel. then maybe try a different framerate cap, or perhaps d3d_disp_limit_gpu_frames 1 (instead of the default d3d_disp_limit_gpu_frames 1 1) in cam_ext.cfg. maybe also disable multisampling (though your gpu should not have a problem with that).

Thanks, guys. 'd3d_disp_limit_gpu_frames 1' helped a lot, but I should have read the mission readme because it mentions stuttering caused by widescreen mods. I overlooked it because I had issues with a couple of others, but Eclipsed was one of the worst offenders.

Any solutions for me, please? I have no idea why the game just refuses to launch for me.
By the way, I have only tried installing the game through Tafferpatcher (with downloaded CDs). Is it possible to apply Tafferpatcher on Steam version of T2?
Kristijonas on 4/6/2015 at 22:09
I already have both T1+Tfix and T2 demo installed - both work flawlessly.
T2 steam version also works flawlessly. There's issue only with Tafferpatch-installed game.

if you had a hard crash, you should have crash.dmp and thief2.log in your T2 folder, zip them up, upload somewhere and post the link.

Does the crash.dmp contain information only about the last crash or previous crashes too? Because my last crash was when I installed tafferpatcher ON TOP of an already installed version of T2+Taffer. Anyway, it crashes all the same.

Thank you for your help.

a full dump would be more helpful - edit lg.ini, and set the first option to CrashDump=4, make it crash again, and repost the zip.

I will document the whole process of reinstalling.
C:/games/thief2 deleted.
thief2_cd1 mounted on daemon tools
running TafferPatcher_TMA_214_beta as administrator
Choosing to install to a new folder C:/games/Th1ef2
Choosing "install thief2 into the specified folder. Setup will ask for original CDs or their copy on HDD", together with all subsequent "copy" choices checked as well.
Installed asks for me to direct to Thief2 CD1, which I do.
It then asks for CD2. I mount CD2 on daemon tools and find it on installer. Installing continues.
The installer now asks for me to select components.
I choose patch 1.22, common scripts for fan-missions, complete resource fix pack 1.1e and all the visual enhancements.
I do not select "change registry settings" (I did so last time I installed the game) or anything else in subsequent screen "select additional tasks".
I click install and the game installs and I now have the option to "test launch", which I do.
Game launches without an issue.
I go to settings and change resolution to 1920x1080 32, game continues to work.
I adjust gamma, ambient volume, then proceed to switch audio hardware mode to OpenAl/EAX and 48 sound channels.
I quit the game and select "finish" on installer.
I go to game directory, click on Thief2.exe and game starts flawlessly again. I start new game, go to second floor of the mansion and kill a guard. Game fails and I quit game. No issues encountered.
I go to Creative Alchemy and create a new entry, pointing to directory of Thief2 installation (this is a Sound Blaster card method to enable EAX in old games, while it works in Thief2 without this program, I still do this just in case)
I launch the game again and only kill Basso this time. No problems encountered.
So for all purposes, the game is now working properly. The only thing I did differently this time, is I did not select "change registry settings" and subsequent option that sounds like "add registry entries to the Thief2 installation directory" or something like that.
Could this have ruined my previous installations?
Very happy to have resolved this, thank you for your help :)
Also, a non-related question: How does Hardware acceleration "off", "on" and "openal" differ in quality? EAX option is separate, so what is the difference between acceleration modes only? I have a good sound card "Sound Blaster ZXR" - do I benefit from it at all in Thief 2?
