I just ran the TafferPatch (2015). I had no files in my computer for Thief 2 at all. I run from my 2 CDs. I download into 'C:\ThiefGames\Thief2TheMetalAge'. When I play the game, the dialogue is coming from from Basso, and I can jump and hear myself landing, but no video. I checked everything at the first box to install everything. On the 2nd box, I only chose Patch 1.18 to make sure it worked fine before adding the 1.2? patch and the extra effects.
At first, I though maybe it was because I was running DirectX11, and I found some forums that gave me a file called 'Direct_XJune2010_redist.exe'. It Extracts all known types of Direct X 9, 10, & 11. but I don't want to mess with this until I check here first.
Every time I want to change something, I have to install it again by putting in both CD's (but it skips right by since it's already installed). Is that supposed to happen? The description said you can go back to edit stuff later on the first page. When I try to run it the 2nd time (and everytime after) it says: "SETUP CANNOT ACCESS THE FILE DARKINST.CFG. PLEASE CHECK YOUR ACCESS RIGHTS AND RERUN SETUP." What does this mean? I right-clicked the Folder, went to Security, and gave my User Name Full Access and check marked everything. It creates a User Name with Full Access but is <not inherited>, while my dup name is still there with limited access from C:\Program Files (I don't understand any of this). Tafferpatch still goes to the 'Select Components' screen even after the Alert. I give up at this point unless someone can help me through this.

padrapocalypse, I can't help with your main problem but I believe you can copy your 2 CDs to separate folders on your harddrive and then install from them within TP. That is what I did, anyway. Might make the "reinstalling" go quicker when you can just point to folders on the HD.

Loaded Garrett loader, says I need to install disc to run FMSaw DDfix which seems to be able to solve the problem - but cannot find an active link to download this - or am not quite catching the MOD

1. You don't need DDFix any more, we have NewDark, and tafferpatcher already installed that for you if it worked correctly.
2. Don't use Garrettloader, it hasn't been updated or supported for years. Everyone either still uses Darkloader or the new FMSel which comes with NewDark (which is recommended for maximum compatibility).

Downloaded Thief 2 from disks to folder. Used Tafferpatcher to install game. Opening credits and scenes run. When I start the first mission, screen is completely black, except for a very small section in upper left hand corner about an inch x inch section. When I move the mouse around I can see that Garrett is looking around do to different things I see in that inch x inch section. I can hear Basso talking to me then walk away. Please help. Been looking around for solutions and I seriously think I am going crazy. I don't know much aboutt computers, can someone please help, (and explain it to me in simple english, (sorry like I said not very computer savy). Thanks a ton everyone. Just really looking forward to playing this game!

go to the T2 folder, open cam_ext.cfg file, find this line:
multisampletype 8
add a semicolon before it, so it looks like this:
;multisampletype 8
save it and play.

I know you can make the gamma adjust work by editing the "cam_ext.cfg" file, which is what I did, but I wish it was a standard for this patch. I do not have this problem with TFix. This can be a very helpful option especially in Sabotage or if you do not like the default level of luminence. Other than that TafferPatcher is flawless. Works perfectly on my Win7 :D Thanks for all of your hard work!
