The version of Tafferpatcher that worked for me is in one right before 212. It was from April 2013.
voodoo47 on 20/11/2013 at 14:04
that means you are using the old DDFixed exe.

Thanks to all responsible for the patch and its components. Excellent work.
Two things. The OP says:
Quote:
Install Thief 2
Note: this works only for original CDs. If you have a Sold-Out release or Complete Collection, just use the disc's autorun menu to install Thief.
But with my SO version I copied the CDs to the HDD and TP installed from them just fine. Or at least I did not notice anything missing if there was.
Is there a link to a guide for installing tafferpatcher and FMs? Will an FM overwrite something important, for eg?

TP will work with any setup disc which resembles the original installation disc structure: all files unpacked, all resource files are placed in RES subfolder, etc. If installation files are divided in two discs then which file resides on which disk should resemble the original structure too. In case of any doubt it's better to merge discs by copying the contents of their THIEF2 folders into one folder on your HDD. TP won't work with discs which have their files packed in CAB archives like many modern distributions do. You'll likely have no problems with installing Thief using their own setup procedure though.

The safest way is to use a built-in FM Selector. It unpacks the FM into the separate folder giving high priority to it over other files while the FM Selector is active. If Thief 2 is started normally, it completely forgets about the FM folder and starts the original game as usual. So there's no way of overwriting anything permanently. To start FM Selector, simply create the shortcut using Tafferpatcher' task page or follow the instructions presented in cam_mod.ini file.
Darkloader will work as usual too, except one issue which may happen with some old FMs:
— If the FM has a modified gamesys file which is named exactly
dark.gam (strongly not recommended for FM builders to give their gamesys the same name as the original one, but nevertheless), it will be overridden by the patched one which Complete Resource Fix Pack contains. No permanent damage done, as they are located in different folders just a priority issue. It can be fixed by renaming the
patchedmis folder temporary for the time you're playing the FM.

The April version is likely NewDark 1.20 (Any version number 2.x.x indicates it contains NewDark). The only difference of NewDark 1.21, AFAIK, is added multi-monitor support. Which makes me guess there's some device on your PC which was mistakenly taken by NewDark as second display, asked it for available resolutions and didn't receive the proper answer which left only default resolutions on the list. The
thief2.log file from the recent version (and maybe the one from the working too) will be much helpful in locating the problem.

Thanks for the info. I take it that the second CD should overwrite the first, if there are equally named files in both?

Yes, it's the safest way. Those files should be identical anyway.

Thanks. Since I am here, I did notice one bug in my playthrough with TP and all components installed. In Masks there was one guard who seem invincible. What I mean is, neither sword or blackjack swings appeared to connect. Yet he could hurt me. No idea if this is a known issue or anything, just thought I'd mention it.

I have two
major problems with TafferPatcher_TMA_212_beta.
I have low frame rate for some reason and the original textures are changed.
(

Inline Image:
http://imageshack.us/a/img11/8725/g4m1.th.pngI install the game manually and then I install the patch. I select the "Complete Resource Fix Pack 1.1e" option and all other options are as they are by default.
I also installed the game a second time by first installing the 1.18 patch and then manually installing the 1.21 patch. No frame rate issues and obviously no changes in the default textures.
So clearly I am doing something wrong or the TafferPatcher_TMA_212_beta is doing something wrong. Maybe the anti aliasing feature is turned on by default and why are the original textures changed?
I apologize if this has already been reported.

the correct answer is probably "your choice of a gpu was poor". make sure you don't install the NTEX hires textures, and disable anti-aliasing in cam_ext.cfg (put a ; right before multisampletype 8). manual installation of 1.18 or the raw NewDark package is not required.

Assumptions, assumptions...
The fact that
everything works perfectly under the "not required" manual installation and under the automatic installation things do not work anywhere near perfect, proves that tafferpatcher does things the wrong way.
Implying that the problem is in my video card and thus denying that there is a
huge problem in the patch itself is dead wrong. The system requirements of the game are
significantly changed by the patch! The TFix patch for Thief 1
asks whether anti aliasing is to be turned on, tafferpatcher turns on anti aliasing at a
very high level. But even more to the point: "the correct answer is probably "your choice of a gpu was poor"". The poor choice are the defaults of this patch and the unspecified criterion of a high performing gpu, especially if it is considered that the mod (
http://www.blackmesasource.com/) Black Mesa runs perfectly with high settings of the materials and anti aliasing level of 2 on my machine.
It is not the "Visual Enchantments" option nor the sub option "NTEX texture pack" that introduces the different textures. I performed a clean and a manual installation of the game and the different textures and models come form the "AM16's Thief2 Fixed 1.1e" named "Complete Resource Fix Pack 1.1e" in tafferpatcher. I thought that patch would fix only broken parts of the game (like the fact that you can not collect all loot in two missions), but alas they also fix things that are not broken, like the already mentioned changed models and textures.
Still the description in tafferpatcher of the "Complete Resource Fix Pack 1.1e" option is unclear! "Includes various fixes for missions, resource files and a fixed game system (DARK.GAM)". From which part exactly, it becomes obvious that models and textures are
altered? The "resource files" part perhaps?
What is meant by resource files? Even console applications have resource files (e.g. text files) so this is a vague description at best. On a more fundamental level, how is this sentence even supposed to be interpreted?
1: Includes various fixes for missions, includes various fixes for resource files and includes a fixed game system (DARK.GAM)
or 2: Includes various fixes for missions, includes resource files and includes a fixed game system (DARK.GAM)? The second version is how the sentence should look like without the omissions, but I think the first version is what the description implicitly says, considering the fact that things are changed/"fixed"? Unclear.
It seems that the only (automatic) patch that makes sense for me is TFix for Thief 1. I will just leave things that way and apply manually patches for Thief 2, thus completely avoiding tafferpatcher.
Thank you for your patience.
