Is there any chance this is a NewDark issue? I have the CDs so I'm not familiar with the Steam (or GOG,) release, are they still using the original engine or ddfix?

already replied in the TFix topic, but let me add it here as well - yeah, the unconscious NPC hurt sounds were disabled on purpose, as they've made no sense. and killing an unconscious video game character just to see him scream, seriously? go fap or something.

I recently installed tafferpatcher, including all the optional visual enhancements. Missions 1 to 4 were looking great, however since mission 5 (Eavesdropping) to where i currently am - mission 8 (Trace the Courier) I dont seem to have T2Skies running properly. There are no clouds in the sky, plus i think the distant city building images are also missing? (I'm not exactly sure if they are supposed to feature in every mission). The moon and stars appear to be ok still and look enhanced
Does anyone else have this problem? Or is the sky just not as good looking for missions 5-8?
Im running Thief 2 from the Steam default folder, rather than moving it to c:\games, could this perhaps solve the problem? Just seems odd the first few missions were fine. The sky looks so detailed on the first few missions, its kind of distracting now to see an average looking one against the high quality textures of the buildings / roads below. Apart from this minor issue I am loving tafferpatcher, and replaying this great classic game - big thanks to all the modders out there!
Note: I was also having an issue where the graphic for carrying a knocked out body was not displaying, uninstalling the Game in Steam, re-installing and reapplying tafferpatcher fixed this. Though as far as i can can tell i did nothing different from the first installation attempt

replied on the steam forum already, but anyway; not all skies are cloudy, if that's what you mean. however, the stars and moon should remain hires, and look like this: (

and yeah, running the game from program files can cause an infinite amount of random issues, that's why every single FAQ out there ask you to NOT run the game from there.

Hello. I have the sold out version of Thief II and Win 8 and am looking for a way to set it up so that no CD is required to be in the drive when I play. Will tafferpatch take care of this if I run it on an already installed copy?
Also I have seen mention that some sounds are disabled by tafferpatch - is it TP that does this or one of its optional components?
It might be useful to be able to hear unconscious NPCs grunting as it alerts you to the fact that they are being hurt. Say you gas mine them and they fall too close to a fire. Well anyway, I'd rather have all the sounds of the game.
TIA.

To answer my own question, both T2tool and Tafferpatch allowed Thief II to be played without the CD being needed in the drive during play.

Just noticed the spitting guards. Not just spitting, but hawking it back first. Have I just forgotten that this was always in there or has the tafferpatch added this?

I just tried using the new 212 beta Tafferpatcher to install Thief 2 and NO WIDESCREEN! When I go into the video options there are only 4:3 resolutions. No widescreen resolutions to choose from.
The new 212 beta did NOT have widescreen resolutions to choose from for me. I uninstalled using 212 beta and then reinstalled using the earlier version of Tafferpatcher and now I have all the widescreen resolutions to choose from. I am staying away from 212 beta.

some more details would be helpful - like what version is working ok for you, and the contents of your thief2.log for example.
