Small update
Changing UseSysMemOverlay to 2 along with LayeredOverlay to 1 improved things, but its still not as smooth as 1.3.11.
But also Did some more testing on a FM I am beta testing -
DDfix 1.3.11 (using the x64 fixed version) no Widescreen patch and res of 1280*1024 - 3 location's is now 55fps!
DDfix 1.3.11 (using the x64 fixed version) with Widescreen patch and res of 1680*1050 - 3 location's is now 47fps!
DDfix 1.5.12 res of 1680*1050 - 3 location's is now 35fps!
It seems that DDfix 1.5.12 really kills the FPS.
NB. I have every copy of DDfix from 1.1.1 all the way through to 1.5.12 and I have the 32bit and 64bit versions of 1.3.11.

I suppose Jermi or anyone who can read ddfix source and tell what's happening.

Can this include (
http://thief.procyonserver.com/index.php?page=downloads) multiplayer?
If not, what do you recommend is the safest way to add the multiplayer patch?
If TafferPatcher handles the editing of the exe, then I should
* Install Thief 2 via Taffer Patcher
* Install Multiplayer
* Re-run TafferPatcher to re-apply any fixes blown away by the multiplayer patch
But of course if TafferPatcher expects the original exe and the Multiplayer exe is different, this could fuck right up...

I contacted Tos about it, but he told he'd like seeing it as a separate install. So no, sorry.

Yes, that's correct. Your multiplayer exe will be renamed to thief2_mp.exe, and non-multiplayer one will be restored as thief2.exe. All selected patches will be applied to both. You can start either of them at will.

Thanks, that's not a hassle and I'm just ecstatic to know it's possible.
There needs to be official Thief awards of recognition for people like you. TafferPatcher singlehandedly makes me far more likely to install and play Thief, and therefore makes it more likely that all the other people's work (Tos the multiplayer guy, etc.) is worth while.

I just downloaded Thief 2 on GoG. The stock version loaded up a tiny version in the top left corner of my left monitor (eyefinity), and it flickered constantly. I found this thread, and was able to successfully load the game fullscreen using Tafferpatcher 103, and DDfix 1.5.12. The game now loads the menus, intro video etc fine. I can set the right resolution, and it appears to be working. I load the first mission and see the video. I arrive at the briefing screen with objectives, but when I press continue, my game crashes to the desktop. I've adjusted many settings, and disabled the extra addons with Tafferpatcher. I've tried the safemode setting during the setup. I've tried using a normal, 640x480 resolution. Any ideas?
edit: Wow, this is the same forum thats community helped me get System Shock 2 running five years ago!

First of all, 640x480 is not a legitimate resolution when using DDFix (any version). If the game even starts with resolution set to 640x480 and actually shows the menu in that resolution (can be seen in your monitor's OSD I suppose), it means that DDFix is not installed properly. The safe ones are 800x600, 1024x768, 1600x1200. Anything higher than 2000 can be tried, there's high probability it won't work too.
Second, it's highly recommended that the resolution should be set via TP, it's the safest method. With DDFix 1.5.11 and higher the resolution can be changed in game options, but restarting the game after that is required. It's still better to change resolution in CAM.CFG file directly via Notepad than in game options.
Third, if you have a built-in soundcard, make sure the audio hardware acceleration is off in audio options.
What OS version do you have?
Can you disable Eyefinity temporary and set the video output directly to one monitor with on of the safe resolutions (see above)?

I am running Win 7 64 bit. I'm using HDMI audio from my video card to a digital receiver for audio. I tried cycling hardware audio in the menu options, with no effect. Crash either way, correct menu audio either way. Here's what I've just done to troubleshoot:
-Uninstalled Thief 2.
-Reinstalled the game from the GoG installer. Launched, got the flickering, small game in the top left corner. Tried loading a game. Crashed to desktop when clicking "continue" past the objective screens: This is not a Tafferpatcher-caused crash, since it occurs with the vanilla game.
-Launched Tafferpatcher 1.0.3. Selected the game directory. Selected "DirectX 10 Compatibility" on the component selection screen. Set 1024x768and 100% FOV when prompted. Enabled Fix Fog for Vista/7.
-Set safe mode in DDFix config utility that launched with setup. Ran Test Launch. Same result as before: Game crashes when pressing "continue" from objectives screen.
I disabled eyefinity and Crossfire. Same result.
I did notice something new this time: The game loaded its first level for less than a second before crashing. The top of the screen displayed the text: "the requested screen mode could not be set".
-Ran DDFix config utility. Selected safe mode.
