original Thief 2 keybinds is WASD.
if install Thief 2 by Tafferpatcher, TP makes Thief 2 default keybinds to more like Thief 1 keybinds.
so i don't use TP when install Thief 2.
only use as patch
TP is supposed to copy .bnd files from CD as they are. They may get changed when installing DROMED, as it has its own DARK.BND. The file THIEF2\SAVES\CFG0000.BND contains WASD bindings which is seen in the menu as "Thief 2 Default" and it's never changed.

EDIT: Widescreen res doesn't seem to work, 1680x1050 causes Thief to default to 320x200x8bit
From what I've heard from people who bought Thief on GOG, it originally did not include the ddfix/widescreen patch so you had to manually download these separately from TTLG or elsewhere. However, there was a recent post on here that mentioned that the game was patched on GOG to include a version of ddfix later after release. You may want to check GOG?

ah.. my mistake.
what i was talked about Default Keybinds is not save file.
just how Thief2 keybinds was set.
when i install Thief2, not using TP, of course Thief2 keybind was WASD.
but when install Thief2 by TP, if i remember alright, default keybind was similar to Thief 1, and i had to Load "Thief 2 Default".
sorry for my bad english :wot:

I have a question about these TafferPatcher instructions.
1. Insert Thief 2 CD1 into CD drive or copy contents from both CDs to a folder on your hard drive.
2. Start TafferPatcher, select the empty folder where you want Thief 2 to be installed to.
Do I copy just the contents of the CDs to a folder that I create on the desktop or do I insert the CD1 into the drive? Will Windows 7 try and install the game from the drive if I do that?

You can just use the cds in the drive and yes windows will start the autorun and what happens then depends on what you have told it to do or not told it to do.
Just close the autorun if it pops up and let tafferpatcher do it for you.

I've got one more question about the Taffer Patcher. I'm going to be applying this patch tomorrow night. The Taffer Patcher doesn't install the High-Res or Object Enhancer does it? Will I still have to install my Thief 2 no-cd patch or does the Taffer Patcher do that too? Does it install all the scripts needed for all the FMs?

TP includes Enhancement Pack by Nameless Voice (objects' models and textures) and NTEX texture pack by thief_gotcha (terrain and walls) if that's what you mean.

It does it if Thief 2 is installed via TP. If not, then start the "Darkinst Configuration Utility" from the last page, select "cd_path" from the drop-list and check the NoCD checkbox.

No. DarkLoader or GarrettLoader do it instead on first run or when new Thief2 folder is selected in their settings.

Cool, thanks for your help! I got Thief 2 running on windows 7! One last question. What if I want to go back and try out a different FOV for the resolution I entered? I chose 95 instead of 100 for 1920 x 1080. Can I go back and change that?

Yep. Just start it again and click "Next" all the way until that window appears. Then click "Next" to the Finish page.

Thanks DJ Riff, I got everything up and running on Windows 7 now. Has anyone seen this version of Thief 2? It's by Good Old Games. It states that it works with Windows 7. Can this be right? Do you think this version has the ddfix? Would this be a way to get it installed and working on Windows 7 without the TafferPatcher?

I was having a terrible time trying to get another older game called Chaser to work on Windows 7 and I finally gave up. Then I saw this Good Old Games website and downloaded Chaser from them for only $6.00. It worked flawlessly on Windows 7. It was so simple. Just download the game and install it and it worked perfectly. I wonder if their version of Thief 2 would do the same?
