I will try this.

And speaking of GOG,
thief gold was recently released on it.
@Thelvyn: Also, tafferpatcher isn't really required to get thief to run, it's just a nice program to make things easier for folks. (Though I have heard that it does bypass the CD installer and installs things directly from the disc, which is nice.) I haven't actually installed thief gold on this machine, as I already had a copy installed from a previous system configuration but the game definitely works on windows 7 64-bit.
Yes TP bypasses the installer completely. I will try using the above mentioned way but I think the thief gold installer is 16bit which will not work under 64bit windows last time I checked. I will try anyway.
Worse case scenario I will write my own installer, the game is pretty much already setup on the cd I think its just mainly copying the files and setting up the .cfg files. The .cfg files would be the problem the rest is cake. And someone could always email me or post one to fix that problem.
Anyway we will see.
Thanks for the info guys.

Thanks for posting that I just bought Thief Gold on GOG and installed it to my USB and it's running with no additional work. So far so good.
EDIT: I'm at work so I can't really play it, but I did quickly run the game and start the training; Videos + sound play perfectly, game started up and looks good, no weird banding or anything.
This is on Windows XP Pro 32bit, intel integrated horrible graphics with 8 MB of shared RAM lol.
Unfortunately no source code comes with the download.
EDIT: Widescreen res doesn't seem to work, 1680x1050 causes Thief to default to 320x200x8bit

I have thief gold working on my system now thanks to Voodoo47
I am writing an app to install Thief Gold now and simplify it for people.
Is it required ? No but it makes it easier just like TafferPatcher does for The Metal Age
Skyrim will miss me but something has to give for me to do this lol

Thank you so much for this! I tried all the other fixes and patches to get it working on my XP with no luck but now it's running fine.

I was asked for the source code of TP, so, well, here it is:
(
ftp://djriff.homeftp.net/patches/thief2/fanmade/TafferPatcher/source/TafferPatcher_TMA_source.rar)
Source files named
TP6.iss and higher are compiled with Inno Setup Unicode v.5.4.0 and probably higher. All comments in this version and higher are in English. All lower versions are in win-1251 encoding and may have localization problems when compiled.
TP10.iss — current release 1.0.0
TP13.iss — current beta 1.0.3
TP14.iss — WIP build, may be buggy, but it has a useful function of recursively copying subdirectories (which may be buggy too :p )
ToDo_Changelog_en.txt is a crude list of notes I've made for myself of what to do and I've done in each build.
All patches placed in the Content subfolder are essential for compilation. All author rights on them belong to whom they belong (see License*.rtf)
As for code itself (*.iss files) — you can do whatever you want with it.
ADD

I do not know inno setup but even learning this should make it go much faster then starting from scratch would be.
I still need to find a name for it however any suggestions (Anyone) ?

DJ Riff, have you ever considered including a default WASD keybind file in the patch? Maybe even make it the default? Would be nice for newbies to not be forced to deal with Thief's somewhat cryptic key config screen.

original Thief 2 keybinds is WASD.
if install Thief 2 by Tafferpatcher, TP makes Thief 2 default keybinds to more like Thief 1 keybinds.
so i don't use TP when install Thief 2.
only use as patch
