The error is because of the texture update (NTEX). You can temporary disable it by sending NTEXDDS folder to the bottom of the list in darkinst.cfg editor.
Performance in Game Mode is greatly improved with ddfix 1.5.11 when LayeredOverlay is set to off.

An Update(
ftp://djriff.homeftp.net/patches/thief2/fanmade/TafferPatcher/TafferPatcher_TMA_RC098.exe) TafferPatcher for TMA Release Candidate 0.9.8
Bugfix— Fixed a bug when the game_screen_size line was not added in cam.cfg if the line didn't exist. It was a leftover of a duplicate line removal operation which was made as a bugfix for adding a duplicate line which was a leftover of the function modification to change fogging setting too
Inline Image:
http://forum.darkfate.ru/Smileys/darkfate/mad2.gif . Now it should work as it's supposed to. True story.
— Improved compatibility for Multiplayer-modified thief2.exe and DDFix 1.5.11. Now the widescreen mod which was pre-installed in Multiplayer .exe is hacked away if DDFix 1.5.11. is installed because DDFix 1.5.11 doesn't work properly with it sometimes.
Other news:
— Fixed some German text to fit the controls when Vista / Win7 Aero interface is on.

Sorry - couldn't find an answer anywhere for this question - but I am using Dromed with Tafferpatcher on Win 7; but cannot find out how to compress the texture pallette. There is a drop-down with an Add texture family; but not one for compressing textures that I am not using. Can anyone help with this? There must be a way to do this, but darned if I can figure it out! Thanks so much for any assistance.

there is not any way to compress them, at least not to my knowledge.
Wait, actually there is a way but not with dromed. What you could do is put the textures into a zip, which would compress them, and then add that zip file name to your darkinst.cfg

Thanks, sNeaksie, I will give that a try and see what happens.
Thanks so much :thumb:

Stupid question - I have DDFix installed from a couple of years ago. Should I just do a clean install of the game, then TafferPatcher?
ffox on 9/7/2011 at 15:03
Clean install - let Tafferpatcher do everything from the beginning. It is an installer.

Cool, thanks - another stupid question: I can put my save my "saves" folder and put the contents in the new one after installation, right?

Neil_McCauley: Yes, you can save your saves folder and put the contents in the new one after installation.
