They probably overrode it on concrete triggers as needed. One main use of bounds triggers in the OMs was the blue lights in the Lost City levels, and those do indeed need to be triggered by AI as well as the player, of course.

Does Soulforge have any Bounds Triggers that would trigger the alarm? Or a Karras speech?
As far as I am aware the only way to trigger one of Karras's 'alarm tripped' speeches is by being spotted by a camera. So unless there are cameras in the two rooms I have mentioned, which I don't think there are, then nothing should cause the alarm to go off when you go up in the associated tower.
Not that big a deal as I do not think it causes a new Big Bot to be spawned.

There are no bounds triggers in Soulforge.

It is very easy to make it work:
cam_ext.cfgCode:
; enable Direct3D 9 based display system (instead of the legacy DirectX 6 one)
;use_d3d_display
just add a semicolon on the use_d3d_display line, that's all.

What are you talking about? Never disable
use_d3d_display
if you don't have to. This is just a rescue option. A bunch of render features rely on this.

indeed - disabling D3D9 and going back to D3D6 (that is what commenting out use_d3d_display does) should never, ever be used unless there is absolutely and positively no other way of making things work.

Long-time taffer - first did Bafford's in December 1998 and completed umpteen Thief 2 fan missions - who wants to dabble in thievery after a long break for other things (the foremost other thing is now seven years old). I need some technical help in knowing how to set things up.
Please talk to me like I'm an idiot.
* I have a pretty good HP laptop that runs Windows 10
* I want to play fan missions primarily, but could envision doing the original missions too
* I have the disks for Thief 1-2-3 somewhere, but my computer doesn't have a CD drive
* I'm not averse to spending a few bucks to download the games from elsewhere (like GOG, which I've heard of) so I won't need a CD drive
To run some of the fancier, better looking versions of the game, what would I need to download and set up? Any guidance you can provide would be helpful.
Thanks.

It's pretty simple, most of the important technical enhancements are already included in this Thread's patch. Install your thief2 if not already. Install this patch. You will be prompted if you want to install some non-essential enhancements at that time, but you can knock yourself out by installing all. Once installation over, I suggest making a copy of your install folder and name it something different, so you have a thief2 you play and another you use for editing only, such as mine is called thief2edit. If you want to get a different experience like high res textures get the HD mod, google thief2 hd mod. Don't install this on your edit thief 2 folder, so you can work with your own custom goodness. For the thief2 edit, install the dromed toolkit.

1. Visit a friend with a PC and a CD drive. Take a thumb drive and the thief CDs with you.
2. Install the game on the thumb drive
3. Back home, copy the game folder on your HDD (e.g. to C:\Games, but not into a protected folder)
4. Run Tafferpatcher on the game. Then just start thief2.exe or make a shortcut to the desktop. No need for a CD/DVD drive to run it.

Sorry I totally missed that there was no drive.
