thats perfectly normal behaviour to be honest.
newdark fixed shadows, subsequently reducing the amount of "perfect" shadows. (which are the ones where guards can touch you without being alert, or wont find you in search mode)
when it comes to alerted guards. what exactly do you mean? guards in the combat state cannot be blackjacked. guards in search mode can be.

Ah, the shadow differences might be it. I've had guards in what, pre-newdark, was perfect shadow, "search" straight in my direction, and take a blackjack to the face without falling. I've also had trouble slipping up behind guards without them noticing me - if they know something's going on (found a body, heard a noise, etc) they won't fall, even when they didn't see me first. Or they'll spin around and attack though they shouldn't have known I was there.
Looks like this will totally change my playing style. No more jumping in a dark corner to lure the guard, because he'll see me. Hmm. Seriously considering going back to the original version of the game.

I'm having the same problems as DromEd_Newbie did a few pages back with a couple of differences.
Windows 10. Steam version of T2 + FMsel works fine in D:\Program Files(x86)\SteamLibrary\...etc.
Made a second install just for editing in D:\Games\Thief2\. The only way to get FMsel to play or edit a mission without just silently closing is to go to the FMs directory and delete fmsel.ini. It'll then ask to redefine a folder for FMs and WILL open a mission for playing or editing, but next time it's back to square one with having to delete the ini again.

Okay, scratch that. FMSel does not actually work properly on my main installation. Thief 2 crashes immediately when I try and use it to launch anything. DarkLoader is handling things well, apart from identifying a bunch of TG missions as T2.
Yandros on 22/3/2016 at 13:59
You have to manually edit the Darkloader .ini file for TG missions to make it recognize them as TG missions. Those instructions are in the FAQ somewhere, or just look up the thread of any TG FM from the last few years and every one will have at least one person early on who asks about it and is given the instructions.

Maybe a fresh install of Win10 will work. I am currently running an upgrade from Win8.1.
Edit: Then again, that won't be helpful to people who don't know how to perform a clean Win10 install yet.
I'll keep digging.
Try the new NewDark 1.24. Looks like there's a fix for Win10
Quote:
- added "no_unload_fmsel" option to cam_mod.ini (can be useful if experiencing crash with FMSel, especially on Win10)

Ok do we have a release date for tafferpatcher with 1.24 in it?
voodoo47 on 25/3/2016 at 19:57
not at the moment - for a quick update, extract 1.24 thief2.exe and contents of contrib.zip into your TafferPatched install, that should give you 1.24 without breaking the custom stuff.

Wow you get around fast. Just replied in the other forums. Thanks again I may just do the manual update for thief 2.
