I will try manually unzipping, I have never tried that before.
You can also try to right-click on the mission you want to play and then select "Install" from the pop-up menu. This should unzip the mission without starting it. After that, you could exit FMSel, start it again and select "Play" with the already unzipped mission. At least we might find out if unzipping is the problem, or rather playing the mission - I'd suspect the latter.
Another idea: Is it possible that Windows 10 automatically regards C:\Games as a "system folder" or some kind of protected folder? (Maybe Win10 equals Gollum and C:\Games equals his "precious" from "Lord of the Rings"?:ebil:) In that case, moving the FM directory/folder to somewhere out of C:\Games could help. Or maybe you even have to install T2 NewDark itself in a folder outside of C:\Games?
EDIT: Ah, I just read that you already tried something like C:\Thief2. So it's not something about C:\Games.
Last idea for now: When I once had to install T2 NewDark on an ancient Windows XP without any Service pack installed, FMSel did not work. I think one of the required updates (for MS Visual C++ runtimes or DirectX) could not be installed. T2 NewDark, however, worked fine, as well as Darkloader for that T2 NewDark installation. Maybe there's something about DirectX or MS Visual C++ that's different with Win10? Does someone know whether any such updates are needed for Win10?

I have 3 partitions
C: Win 7 Ultimate x64
D: Windows 10 Pro x64
E: Data partition
I play Thief1 and 2 and their fan missionsin in both 7 and 10 without a problem.
Windows 10 is a fresh install. My Thief games are in portable mode copied over from a USB stick.

Maybe a fresh install of Win10 will work. I am currently running an upgrade from Win8.1.
Edit: Then again, that won't be helpful to people who don't know how to perform a clean Win10 install yet.
I'll keep digging.

Been wrestling with this for weeks now...ever since I got a new gaming laptop.
Win 10
Steam version of Thief 2 has been installed
Then a fresh Tafferpatcher install to the STeam Thief 2 directory.
When I launch Thief 2 it immediately crashes to the desktop.
I uninstalled TP, launched Thief 2 and it runs fine.
Reinstall TP...crsshes to desktop.
Uninstall TP, uninstall THief 2, manually delete the Thief 2 folder in SteamApps\Common.
Fresh Steam install of THief 2
Install (manual) of NewDark 1.23...launch Thief 2 and it crashes to desktop.
I'm lost without Thief 2...please help meeeee!

there should be a crash.dmp and thief2.log in your T2 folder after the crash. zip those files up, upload to some online storage, and post the link.

looks like you didn't share the file properly (you need to set it so anyone can download).

ok, first quick thing is, move the game out of program files, that is a bad place to be (safest thing to do is to reinstall completely into a different location, and patching with TafferPatcher again). also, did you try the DX6 safemode?
also try this - edit cam_ext.cfg with notepad, find ;d3d_disp_no_rgb10_buf and remove the semicolon, so it would look like this;
Code:
; by default it will try to use an enhanced 32-bit precision display mode, if the driver supports it, but
; there may be instances (like with integrated intel GPUs) where the driver does support it but it may not
; work correctly (such as gamma not working), this option will disable the use of enhanced precision
d3d_disp_no_rgb10_buf
save and exit, and see whether the game will start.

Hi Voodoo...it's the Steam version of T2 so I can't move it out of SteamApps\Common
Has anyone else gotten T2\Tafferpatcher to work on Steam\Win 10 64 bit?
I had a MacBook Pro bootcamp with Win 8.1 and it all worked perfect.
My laptop now is Dell Inspiron 7759
