Re-Thief, however good or bad it is, won't make Classic Thief
stop existing. They'll still be there for you to play. Silent Hill 4 was awful, and almost every Silent Hill game after that has been an abomination. I still play 1, 2 and 3, because
they're still there. Nothing is ruined forever.
Precisely!

"Nothing is ruined forever."
Just forum discussion of the brand.

Just to bring everyone involved to the present: I am here for a solemn and strict purpose. I house the knowledge of all that has come before, and as such dispense it as I see fit. At this point, my ramblings are more for my own amusement than anything, since you people seem to know increasingly less and less about LGS. And yet here you are, haunting TTLG like nobodies business. I am not interested in being a part of your various social cliques as I am a Dark Project fanatic. Rabid. Frothy. Drooling... I could point you to many posts over the years where I have stated the same. Continue to clutter up another thread about Thief if you must, but dethtoll, please... leave the picture posting to ZylonBane. You just dont do it right.

I find what the Thief™ Team is doing unsettling.
Credit to the Deus Ex: Human Revolution team where it is due. They really did stay quite true to that series.
If you threw some of the "Thief™" screen shots on a website, with no explanation as to what game they were from, would you really be able to tell at a glance they were Thief™? Even Thief 3 was instantly recognizable as Thief thanks to the lightgem. I've seen people over the last few years mistake Dark Mod screenshots for Thief 4, thinking they had uncovered some secret archives or something. heh
I don't see Thief in this game, beyond the fact they're labeling it as such. They tossed out the light gem, elemental arrows, and who knows what else? There was never any intention to make a recognizable Thief game folks. They spent years and years exploring every possibility 'but' staying true and rising to the challenge of how to market a Thief game. Deus Ex was an easy sell I guess, but with Thief they got scared and have obviously 'looted' other popular mainstream games for marketable gimmicks. I gave up on EM making a 'moderately' faithful Thief game years ago, but even the little news that has been released so far seals the deal.
I understand that they need to make money, but going this far out of their way to make the next game in the franchise as unlike the previous games as they can and still call it Thief™ is stupid. Why the hell didn't they just forget about it and make a new game? They obviously wanted to make a new game. They're cheating themselves out of the creative freedom of game design and they're cheating the fans to a degree by trying to sell them this foreign property as Thief...and to me, it simply isn't. I don't care if they do hold the copyright.
I'm sure it will be a good game in it's own right, but it really irks me that they have the audacity to shoehorn it into a Thief title. It's insulting.

Wow. You are not self-aware at all and it is amazing.

That's so nuts it's almost beautiful. At least the sentence structure is normal.
Take note jtr, this is how self entitlement bs is done.

He surely must not believe it got through to at least one person, though.
I just hope the HUD, whatever it all is, isn't obtrusive, and that it, in every way, doesn't provide info Garrett wouldn't know, doesn't tell me something I wouldn't know using my own senses if I were Garrett there in that world myself, and looks as though it were a part of that world, came from that world.

Oh come now. They really didn't.
The 'systems simulation' was trivial and contrived - reduced to being compartmentalized into single rooms (along with the game-play challenges) rather than taking place across wider locations and environments. It was Splinter Cell with bits on. For sure, Splinter Cell with bits on isn't a bad recipe for a game - but it wasn't Deus Ex smartly expanded upon for the early 21st Century.
I gotta agree with the rest though. Those screenshots look like a Dishonored DLC with slightly less style/colour/visual interest as much as they might do a Thief game or indeed any other game with a fantasy setting. But it's early days (if 3 years later can ever be said to count as early days).
