FFS this is so disgusting...

It's disappointing. They owe you nothing.
Renzatic on 24/4/2013 at 07:46
Actually, they owe us quite a bit. After all, they do want us to buy their game and all.
It's just that whining, screaming, and drawing the worst case scenario out of ever tidbit of news isn't a good way to go about getting what you want. Petitions are fine, but god forbid any EM devs actually come around here to visit...

You know how it goes, anyone can sue anyone these days. I don't think the TDM guys would last long vs. the EM lawyers (who would?). But luckily, TDM seems niche enough that it's existence probably doesn't bother EM in the least. If they were putting out 100, high quality, high production type missions a year, I think it might be a different story though.
Fortunately, not every legal system works in a way that allows one side to outlawyer the other. A hypothetical lawsuit against TDM would probably be based in Europe (although it is an interesting case - I don't know if it is even tied to a formal legal entity).
But even in the US, the concept of (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laches_%28equity%29) laches would apply: since EM did not pursue legal action against TDM when it was under development, or when it was released in 2009, it has failed to assert its rights (whatever they might be) in a timely manner. Additionally, if the mod became a target, you'd bet that would receive a ton of attention, and in addition to the negative PR for EM, you can bet the team would have access to ample legal council and defence.
However, I have no knowledge TDM has ever received a cease-and-desist letter, and there is no evidence EM cares at all, so this is all very theoretical.

They owe you a game that works as advertised and nothing more.

What's interesting is that T4 is the game that will get them interested, but now T2 & TDM will be the ones that hook them in & keep them, because now we know, without T4 having an editor, that's where the FM scene will continue to stay.
This.
The way it goes, Thief 4 will be a nice game (hopefully) that you'll play once, then forget about it for a couple years, busy playing FMs or other games...
I wish they change their mind.

Well DrK, if T4 does turn out to be an epic fail (and we're all hoping it doesn't), at least we still have you and all the other wonderful, imaginative, creative and talented FM authors to help ease the pain! I could totally see salving my disappointment in a replay of the Rocksbourg series or any (or all) of the other fantastic FMs you and all the FM authors have created for us.

If NuThief does indeed turn out to be a disposable game, without an editor, which I predict will happen...it will serve as a unintended promotional piece for the community and its' greater need...So you see, every black cloud has its' silver lining...
...and my personal thanks to you, for your excellent work.
