If we can put the resources back into the IBT file, I suggest we do it. For some people, the loading times really are much longer. I don't notice it so much now (spankin' brand new system :ebil:), but on my old system it really did add a lot on to the loading time.
Plus you only get a progress bar if you're using blockloading. Progress bars good. :thumb:

Shadowspawn, one request, when you compile the exe(s), make sure you give it an icon, that will allow it to be added to GarrettLoaders QBAR (for FM Authors) or the GarrettLoader Plugin Toolset (for players). Although it would be best fully integrated into GL, however the plugin toolset would suffice for the moment.

Is there another option to take instead of making FM file sizes smaller. Afterall you can only compress something so much.
I see one person has already mentioned the use of bittorrent. I think this would be the best idea. Especially because it solves more than one problem. Not only can it be used to allow slower connections to download the larger files. It can also be used to save bandwidth from servers such as thiefmissions.com. Instead of zipping an FM into 10 different bite size packages in order for them to be downloaded, let the community distribute them to each other via a bittorrent client.

Its an option, true, although someone would need to host the torrents and not everyone uses Bit Torrent.
With regards to compressing the T3 zips though, ShadowSpawn has managed to get some of the FMs down to about 1/10th their original size..

I use dial up, 37.2 kbps is the average speed. This is a result of the phone line being too old and shody to support broadband:mad:
but i dont think that the file sizes are a problem, i download them overnight and its fine.
i just downloaded the bridge and that was 117, not a prob.
I use a download manager, get right, and if anyone does have issues downloading give it a go cos its free and does seem to help make things less painful.

get right is not free. free download manager on the other hand is.

Ditto, I use Get Right for free as well....
As stated on their site, GetRight basic is free to use however long you wish to use it. I have done so for over a year myself. Aside from the ocasional dialog encouraging you to upgrade to a Full version it is fully functional and usefull for free. I use a somewhat slow satelite connection currently so I just schedule big downloads (ie: The Bridge by Str8, Awesome work!) and I have never had a problem. I have tried countless other "Free" download managers and none of them come close to GetRight in performance and functionality IMHO. When downloading on this type of connection you just kinda have to learn to be patient which can be somewhat dificult when you go from a 4Mbps service to what I have now. However to see what someone esle has done within the community for their FM is always worth the wait.
