Once I iron out my computer woes, I will be continuing work on an automated T3Ed installer. Now, we have the chance to make the editor pretty user friendly, right out of the box. What I would like to see in this thread, are the things the editing community would like to see included in this custom package by default.
There are a few things from Minimalist that I want to include but nothing too imposing.
I would like to keep this thread discussion free and use it only for posting the request and detailed instructions on how to achieve it. Putting the installer together is pretty time consuming as is, so I don't want to spend a lot of time hunting down these suggestions.
Not everything will make it in...only things that make sense and improve the game/ editing experience.
I would like to see further work done on rope arrows personally. They seemed to be coming along nicely.
So, let it begin. Keep it neat, concise and clear. :)
Lets make this a kick ass package.

A few things we had to manually do to the editor:
1. user.ini & Default.ini changes for writing block files
2. xreboot.bat file for the xbox technique
3. rename T3MainOptVersion.exe to T3Main.exe
Minimalist with the option of removing changes (duh, like you didn't do that already). But I had to make a fresh install of T3Ed for the small FM contest because I tweaked the hell out of the original such as a custom gamesys, John P's texture packs, and the textures I've been altering.
Optionally including new scripts & custom gamesys like the rope arrows (which seems to be perpetually in alpha stage. No tutorials for those yet).
Maybe down the road a few months/years you could include installers for new static meshes or matlibs. That seems a bit redundant though.
Maybe a warning about the possibility of being a T3Ed addict.

Definately.

I will throw in a few of the Minimalist tweaks but not making anything optional. It will have to be Minimalist LITE but hopefully be a nod to retro Thief at the same time. I don't want to create an installer that gives everyone a different starting point with the editor.

I would love to see rope arrows built into the editor by default, but I haven't seen any progress on them in some time. Doesn't appear likely.

If someone writes the utility, I will gladly include it in the package.

I don't understand the motive behind this. What's the point of inserting the 'Minimalist' product in every possible T3 related software??? As it should be clear to you not everyone uses Minimalist project or shares your view of the 'retro' Thief. Indeed one can refrain from using such product itself, but an automated installer should be free from personal biases as large audience will (hopefully) use it. My only request would be to RETAIN those features that people actually like and possibly want to improve upon even if YOU don't like them. FM designers don’t have to deal with any sort of restrictions, in whichever form. Best policy is to make everything optional, as many would agree, no doubt.

Yeah, and now with the Editor you can make it even MORE koool and tweak it exactly how *YOU* want...I am sure any sensible mind can comprehend this simple fact. :thumb:

Sure, I am in. But perhaps you would be interested in checking out the outcome of last poll which was also about imposing some features...

I don't mind if you want to put in a few personal tweaks, but I would mind if they weren't optional. I didn't like the minimalist project for a few reasons, one being that I could not switch the 3rd person mode, and another was that the begining screen had "The Minimalist Age" in place of "Deadly Shadows." I prefer to play deadly shadows as Deadly Shadows. If you're going to release this product, a lot of people are going to use it. The minimalist should be optional.
