I think I've reached a crossroads and before it's too late I'd like to see what the community thinks. Here's my choices:
I. Another Thief 3 mod (altered OMs, resources for FMs)
* Classic Mod
• Replacing t3 objects/textures/sounds with t1/2 objects/textures/sounds (t3 streetlights to t1/2 steampunk collector lights, etc.)
• UI changes
• change visuals for movies (maybe replace debriefing dialogs?)
* Realist Mod
• photorealistic textures (remove shading from *_d textures and let the specular/normal maps take care of the shading or totally replace them)
• higher poly models. I think the pc version can take more than what the originals offered.
• Basically make things less cartoony
• Merge maps?
* Artistic Mod
• More artistic (impressionistic, cubism, maybe a certain theme to go with each map/faction?)
• Making skiny materials more shiny
And the other choice:
* Komag's Contest 7 (self explanitory)
I'd like to do Komag's contest but I also like tweaking but I don't know what kind of mod I want to go for.
Pros/Cons:
Mods will take away mapping time for contest 7:
• "Fleshers" will have more resources available to them & I'll probably release bits & pieces as I go along.
Contest 7 will take time away from modding & will not have resources for mappers
• One more FM for the Thief community (I think we need all we can get :thumb: )
In the meantime I'll just do some experimenting (my first fm had scripts starting with LAB as in laboratory, AKA Krellek's Labyrinth). I need to get to bed :bored:

Since I played Krellek's Labyrinth, only thing that I want from you is another FM :) Anyway you may create some resources for your further mission and later share it with community :)

I vote for classic, but not necessarily a replacement mod - just resources etc. :)

Just get on with another damn level!
(I am, but it's taking a long time this time out)
And if you make any interesting new textures or smeshes for it, then help STiFU with his content site, and let him worry about getting the new content to other mappers.

I chose the Classic Mod...but...I think it should also be combined with elements of a Realist Mod. T3 could stand a huge dose of Classic Realism in its style. I would fully support this by donating T3EnhancEd to get things rolling. A huge majority of the work is already finished for you. In fact, I will burn it onto DVD in its current form and send it to you today. A lot of the UI work is already done for you...and I can help out with some of it. Changing the font, using classic colors for UI elements...etc.
I'm pulling back a bit from my T3Ed work to focus fully on Dark Mod once I finish the installer but I can still lend a hand here and there.

If you're thinking of improving the textures as part of the Realist Mod, you might want to start by using some better quality normal maps.
DXT1-compressed normalmaps look absolutely disgusting, which is why D3 uses RXGB for normal maps, or preferably no compression at all.

I'm not a mapper or designer or modder, I'm a player. now I realize the value of improving the game with better mods but right now I'm starving for more missions. my vote goes to the contest but I'll not complain no matter what you do anything done to improve the game makes me happy.

You might get some problems with the higher poly models, as we could see on my recent problem with the vertexbuffer pool. There seems to be a polylimit in some way. But they look okay anyway i think, though i would prefer the realist mod aswell. On the other hand another one of your FMs would be really cool too. And Z is definitely right... :)

Do what you feel is best and what you feel most inspired to create. The main thing is not to burn yourself out.

Precisely, I've experienced the pain of burn out many times while working on The Minimalist Project. A huge part of that admitedly resistance from a lot of the new Thief fans who came on board and didn't like that I was revamping the UI and other such things. It remains to be seen if there will be a backlash against me for T3EnhancEd. :) I can only assume Aditya will dig his way out from the depths of forum necromancy to criticize what I've done this time. ;)
Oh well. I'm more than happy to give you the work so you don't have to start from scratch. :) The community has been so helpful to me, it's the least I could do.
