The problem with GMD is that he treats you like a philistine if you don't know every vague reference or possible connection in Thief from one of his almighty crpgs.
The truth is, Thief is it's own game. You don't have to know Might and Magic or Ultima to enjoy Thief, and you're not an idiot (or a "noobz") for not knowing any possible references to them. This is just his attempt at trying to convince others that he is some type of super genius.
It's like saying you can't fully understand Star Wars unless you've watched Flash Gordon serials from the 30s, or Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress. Completely asinine.

Nah, but this part right here, this is much closer to home. A wonderful insight by Random_Taffer.

You seem rather haughty and disdainful in your knowledge of Might & Magic and how it relates to Thief. This would make sense to me if you weren't a fan of Thief, but since you are...eh, well maybe I'm just thinking too much about it.

Cool, another thread ruined by GMD.
Goldmoon Dawn on 24/8/2016 at 21:21
How did I ruin this thread?? It is about the information the guards had at the beginning of Thief 3. At first Brethren was making light of the topic, I came in and saved the damn thread! lol Then, it was discussed and actual input was recieved. The conclusion was satisfactorily drawn, then I had some fun. Byte me you clown.

Nobody cares about your superior knowledge, which is not relevant to the thread at all. jtr7 was a delight to read. You're not. Go play somewhere else.

So much hostility! Chill you guys.
Trying to get back on topic, I still think the most reasonable explanation is that Garrett acquired his notoriety among the City's law enforcement because of Truart and Karras leading the manhunt for him in T2. I think it makes sense too.

As the have posters of him hanging around town, that is probably so.

Because he is able to speak underwater. You know, sound propagation...

The guards on the streets in T1 weren't with the City Watch. That didn't exist in that game. They may have though he looked suspicious, but they took the Benny approach "People to worry about are on the inside", so as long as they weren't being attacked they were happy to ignore him.
In T2 there's nothing to suggest the Bluecoats recognize Garrett, just that they'll attack anyone who looks suspicious.
By the time T3 came along, Garrett's activities had put the Thieves Guild out of business because he was just so good, so if anyone saw someone who looked like a thief, it could only have been Garrett.

Ya know what? Fine, whatever!

Again, fine... (i guess, obviously you are just getting yourself warmed up with these first two statements of yours)

Now right here though... WRONG!
I have merely delighted in the fact that Thief is basically an amalgamation of MM, ULT, and WIZ thrown into a blender and delivered via the dark engine. A game that shamelessly answers every piece of bait that led up to it, like a little puppy dog sniffin' all around. Also, the fact that almost everyone here has this huge pair of blinders on about this subject. It has absolutely nothing to do with this "super genius" theory of yours... thats kinda stupid. lol

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!! The people who made Flash Gordon in the 30's did not directly work with and directly influence the creators of Star Wars!!!!!!!! LGS was directly given the opportunity and directly mentored by Richard Garriott himself!!! How could you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is truly asinine, here, is that you cant even be bothered to think up a better response than that! Did you think that last line would just be, absorbed by the bandwagon??? What a stupid thing to say. Were the creators of these 1930's era Flash Gordon things even still alive when they made Star Wars?!?! WTF!

And this type of bullshit bandwagoning, is the same stuff that drove my good friend jtr7 away! Superior knowledge? wtf???
