Why?
Because I have already played Might and Magic 3. :)
It is what it is. Some people think Deadly is the best of the series. I am obviously a fan(atic) of Dark Project. It was the game, the culmination of everything LGS has learned, built up, and in many cases, um.... stole, I mean were inspired by, I mean.... :) Everything that led up to that glorious moment in gaming history. Why did they even bother making a part 2, I often wonder....
Anyways, yeah... a ton of history with these classic rpg companies, who loved borrowing from each other. Will that answer be sufficient, or do you require more detail?

Well I guess the City watch kept their documents even after Truart and Karras were gone, so they probably have a description of him.

I have never played the game, but I just read the plot on wiki and I fail to see the resemblance.
Like, you know that everything is basically Hamlet, right? Is that going to stop you from watching or playing anything else ever again?

I don't think DS was the best in the series, but I thought it was true to the world of Thief and got the feel just right.
Hang on, you're saying they shouldn't have made Thief 2? So would you...rather play the same T1 missions over and over again and never get something new from the same world to play? You do realize that Thief 2 and Thief DS don't actually change Thief 1, right? Like, it's still there to be played at the end of the day.

Whereas most fans here lament the fact that LGS weren't able to make more Thief games, Goldmoon instead wishes that they never would have made Thief 2. Because Might and Magic.
Alrighty then!

Definitely sounds like a first for TTLG

Yes.
And I do, at least once through every year. You fail to see the resemblance.... after reading a wiki page on the glorious and classic Isles Of Terra... Im kinda laughing. LGS would have been little, if anything, without the direct intervention of the classic crpgs from the 80's up to and including Ultima, Might and Magic, and Wizardry.
All the come latelys who want Thief to be all theirs, have to accept at some point, this heritage. To this day, I know some here still cringe at the very thought. Funny. How the game of Deadly Shadow, leading up to the keeper enforcer segment, relates to anything in Isles Of Terra, will certainly *not* be revealed by quickly reading up on some internet page.
Furthermore, the joke wasnt even about MM3, that was just fodder for the worms. I covered that years ago anyway, Ultima Underworld, LGS stole the entire HUD from MM3. The joke was simply that they... "stole". After Might and Magic 6 was released in the spring of 1998, the team could not resist the bait and thus shifted the focus of the game and returned to that crucial decision. They were gonna steal everything. They made the game about a Thief, who pillaged and plundered the glorious crpgs of days gone by, and they did this to marvelous effect.
Not only do I accept this, I revel in it!
The bear pits convo was ripped off, turned around, and made into an even bigger joke in MM9, did everyone know that?!?! LGS, Origin, NWC they all had a long glorious history of ripping each other off. Thief: The Dark Project was the undisputed pinnacle of this movement, almost as if it had a life of its own! Dripping with all that atmosphere from top to bottom. lol
Welcome, noobz.
Listen, Might and Magic, Wizardry, Ultima, Thief.... they all had a "religous fanatic" faction. Thief had the Hammerites, MM had the Temple of Baa. In Thief you had to dress up as a novice to get into the Hammer Temple. In MM6, 8 months earlier, you had to dress up as a novice to get into the Temple Of Baa. All on account of Slicker Silvertoungue! Who was a traitor to the cause, and denied access to the oracle!!!! MWahahahahaaaaaa!!!!!!!
Um... Thief2 and MM8 were released on the same day, and both games featured a stowaway submarine ride to a remote isle, at about three quarters of the way through the game. In the case of Thief2, that isle was Markhams Isle, not to be confused with Lord Markham of Emerald Isle from MM7, of course...
There are at least 4 references to other classic crps in this post alone, than none of you will get or make any connection to, which of course makes me laugh. Its what I do when you guys actually run out of things to bitch about.

Nice going RT, you just had to get him going, didn't you?
Yandros on 24/8/2016 at 19:42
As a fellow old school gamer who played all those games too, I find your post interesting and nostalgic, but also largely irrelevant to this thread.
Anywho, you probably know this already, but since I don't think you're a Dromeder I'll tell you anyway just in case. The name of the archetype for the explosion produced by the sunburst device in T2 is Tiltowait. Nice homage, huh?
Edit:
@Brethren - it has to happen every once in a while, or else GMD will explode in a fountain of 8-bit RPG gibs and viscera.

But you don't understand...! These -hic- taffers have no respect for such... b-beautiful things.
Random_Taffer on 24/8/2016 at 19:53
I'm not saying you're wrong about a resemblance (It was apparently just before my time. Thief was one of the first immersive games I ever played for PC and I didn't even first play it until after LGS was gone), but I also don't really care that much. It doesn't bother me one bit that devs steal stuff from each other. My favorite band is Led Zeppelin for God's sake.
Would I be safe in assuming that you only ever play the original TDP missions and not TG?
How do you feel about fan missions?
Also, and maybe it's because I rarely interact with you, but... I'm really puzzled by your attitude. You seem rather haughty and disdainful in your knowledge of Might & Magic and how it relates to Thief. This would make sense to me if you weren't a fan of Thief, but since you are...eh, well maybe I'm just thinking too much about it.

Genuinely curious: How does that make you feel?
